How Long Before They Introduce Tithing?
by pale.emperor inwhen i was a full-on believing jw i had an obsessive fascination with mormonism.
i read, studied and watched their propaganda with strange interest as well as their apostate mormon books.
i have to say, they have a good scam going claiming that "the lord reintroduced tithing" in the modern age.

Does Disfellowshipping only prohibit spiritual contact with a DF family member or friend?
by Isambard Crater inall through my life, now in my 40's, i've seen df people get completely shunned by family and friends, but an ex elder showed me the stfog book that says it's just spiritual contact that stops.
so what's the crack?
i'm mega confused, as i want to go p.o.m.o or ideally da but don't want to loose family..

They know they shun totally. They know it looks bad. They lie. Call it "theocraptic warfare", they lie.
This is a great example of the way Watchtower Corporation muddied the waters and weasels around things. It's like how a person is automatically disassociated for doing certain things instead of being disfellowshipped because to DF them for those actions (taking blood, military service) would look bad on them. It's all about keeping up appearances with them and the culture they create through talks and such is often just different enough from the written word because they know what to put in writing and what to then tell you in person.
These things show that they are manipulative and not to be trusted.

Yeah, it's sad that people just see them as this quaint little group harkening back to simpler times. The good ol' days, when kids were seen and not heard, beating your kid was okay, and nobody talked about the terrible things that weird uncle was doing. People romanticize the Amish culture. It's not so great.

What I wish I had known at 18
by NewYork44M inthe financial times had an article with the above question.
the author asked various people to answer the question.. https://www.ft.com/content/169705e4-b4dd-11e8-b3ef-799c8613f4a1.
while i was not interviewed, if i was asked this question i would say that i wish i had known in 1975, when i was 18, that i was raised in a cult and that the continued focus on armageddon over my lifetime was a cruel joke.

I wish I had known that college was the next best step, not pioneering.

Episode Eighteen - Torah Bontrager - Escaping The AmishIn this episode I was able to interview Torah Bontrager, a non-practicing Amish that is the founder of the Amish Heritage Foundation. Torah has been on MTV True Life, the Tim Ferriss Blog, Forbes.com, and the Huffington Post. Her desire is to reclaim the narrative and help tell a more accurate Amish story while working to help those that escape the church. With that said, Torah has her own intense story of escape and she’s managed to create a life that she loves on the other side of that escape. So listen to Torah’s story, learn about Amish culture, and understand more about the experiences of others around you.You can download and listen on your podcast app of choice (iTunes, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Podcast Republic, Podbean, etc.).You can also listen at https://shunnedpodcast.com/episode-eighteen-torah-bontrager-growing-up-amish/ by using the player there.Or you can listen on Youtube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkAqBLebnqQ&t=1s -

by smiddy3 ini would like as many people that can, to respond to this appeal as i am sure their are many examples out their that may help lurkers and fence sitters to make a decision on where they stand regarding the "truth".

Doubter is incapable of being intellectually honest. Just tell him to fuck off and stop feeding him. There is some sort of thing that happens where these Watchtower bots come here for x amount of time, try out new material, we feed them, and they disappear. Then they come back later to start anew.
Just say fuck off Doubter, and refuse to feed him. It worked with Bobby before him. Don't feed the pedo protectors. They don't deserve your time.

Look who's back after running away again, The Ducker. Come back to hold us "accountable" again you feckless liar? Why aren't you as concerned with your own cult leaders and holding their feet to the fire? Bbbbbbut I have to go make sure I spin a stupid yarn about the United Nations and try to excuse the hypocrisy of the men I worship on this earth. Pathetic. That's twice now you've disappeared. Fuck off. Go find your other alter egos Bobby and Richard Oliver and Fisherman and John Davis and just sit around seeing who can spin the longest without falling down again.

Expected pain
by former2free inlast week was a big week for me in terms of coming totally clean to my wife and her being more than on board to leave the jw’s with me.
we know what to expect but things happen from family and it still hurts just as bad.
last night my wife got a long text message from her brother that has seemed to be in the fence and he told her that same guilt tripping rhetoric that the wt uses about life in the paradise etc.

As far as how you two respond, do you. Feel out those relationships that you care about and see how they will go. Determine what games you're willing to play and what games would lead you to take further action. We faded for a bit and decided we didn't want to keep playing toxic games so we disassociated when a certain line we drew was crossed.
I'm just sorry that you two are facing this. Go slow. I know it's exciting to finally open up to your wife and have her on board, but it sounds like you might be letting that excitement leak out in the family and it could turn ugly. Remember that you were allowed to wake up on your time and let them do the same. You may blow it all up if you're not careful. You're carrying a bomb to drop so no sudden moves.
Congrats on waking up. I'm sorry that it also can cause problems. Freedom is rarely free. There will often be a price to pay and sometimes it's very heavy.
