Dear baby haysoos Morpheus, is there anything you can't argue about and pick apart? Who cares about the detail of how many really go back, you can look past that and get to the heart of why some that leave have lives that look like a dumpster fire and struggle. Those people exist, regardless of the number, and it is an interesting discussion, unless of course you want to derail it because of some perfectionistic need to ensure that all details are 100% factual in order to discuss a topic. Geez man, don't be a thread-shitter.

Why do so many that leave wind up coming back?!
by nowwhat? ini have seen so many that have left.
and their life turned into a dumpster fire.
most do not live the average life of living in suburbs, raising a family.

I think ToesUp makes a great point too about the resultant depression. It's not natural to basically put all of your friends and family on one bus and watch it go over a cliff, to feel that level of loss and loneliness in one fell swoop. People were given one tool to cope their whole life, the false hope of a panda paradise, and now they have no healthy tools at their disposal so they may escape in unhealthy ways.
Oh, and then there's the shame. You've done something "wrong" and been told that you're a horrible person and since you internalize it this may lead to a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts. Bad people do bad things.
So you build a model of a person (often a young person) with little education and poor job prospects, no family or friends, no hope, battling depression, often having to make tough decisions quickly and under pressure to survive, who feel like they're inherently bad and that they have to act out to fit into the new world they've been thrust into. The fact that many of us survive and thrive is a minor miracle.

You're quite welcome! I've got an office building to clean today and I'll probably listen myself even though I did the interview and went through it with the edits. My wife always listens to each episode before I release it just to try to catch anything I missed. So now it's my turn again. And DJ gets to hear it for the first time today himself. New podcast day is always fun.

Many buy into the notion implanted by the cult that people in the world are wild and crazy constantly. When they leave they think they have to go wild and do anything and everything thinking it will make them fit in. It is a way that the cult gets you coming and going. Even when you leave you have a false impression of what and who you have to be to fit in on the outside. Many ex-JWs go far wilder than those they meet and out "worldly" the "worldly" people. So you leave, you go wild because you think you have to in order to fit in, you burn your life to the ground, and you go back seeking stability and family and are then the poster child for why people shouldn't leave.

Yet another person has their life impacted by the cult of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Listen as DJ recounts his life growing up in the cult as well as his awakening and eventual path out. There are so many things going on behind closed doors, so many things that don’t appear to be what they are, and so many arbitrary rules and the accompanying shame that comes along with them throughout a life as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. DJ has some unique aspects of his family story regarding substance abuse and substance use, an interesting dichotomy in how things are viewed and regulated based on the opinions of men.
DJ chose a song to represent his journey by Tash Sultana called Murder to the Mind.
Here are some resources that helped DJ in his path out:
The Joe Rogan Experience – Joe interviews fascinating characters and thought leaders to bring their perspectives on living to life.
Lloyd Evans’ book The Reluctant Apostate and his Youtube channel called John Cedars.
And last, but certainly not least, the book that every ex-JW should read, from a former leader of the cult himself (Ray Franz), the book Crisis of Conscience. This book has just recently been re-released to great fanfare in the ex-JW community.

How do you deal with the loneliness after leaving?
by Whynot ini'm having one of those days where i feel lonely and wish i had someone to just hang out with.
my husband got disfellowshipped 3 years ago and even though i didn't do anything wrong i was pushed away.
my so called "friends" decided to avoid me.

My wife and I have been out for two years and just got home from a movie night with a bunch of people that were never JWs. We decided when we left the cult that we'd tell everyone our story and that we'd say yes to any offers to socialize. We now have way more friends than we ever did in the cult and we can't keep up with them all. Some came from our cleaning business but we branched out from there. Follow people on Facebook and you'll have ideas for conversations.
It's not easy. We all have a measure of awkwardness when joining the world around us, but we can overcome it. We are just open and explain why we don't get certain references or don't know the etiquette in situations. People are understanding and genuinely interested. We all have a story that is fascinating to many people if we're willing to be vulnerable.

Lloyd’s new book
by jwfacts ini see there has already been discussion over lloyd’s new book how to leave the jehovah's witnesses.
this includes discussion around his personality, motives and financial gains.
i have written a foreword for this book, because it is an important topic that has not been covered in such a complete format before.

Lol JP, no need to get upset there buddy. I'm not even sure what your turnaround of my turnaround means other than that it made you feel some type of way. "With a question like that"? Must have struck a nerve. Funny how it's easy to take shots at others by heaven forbid someone ask anything of the person taking shots.
Good day JP. Sorry I thought it was valid to try to add to the perspective. It's funny how one man's ego (Lloyd's) touches off so many other egos. Suddenly everyone is defensive.

Exactly!
For some people it's about the cause; for others the cause is a way to make it about them.
YMMVCould it not be said that those that spend their time speaking against those that are actually doing something for the cause are making it about themselves? I like to turn things around and see how it plays from both angles.

R & B Soul on JW.org
by silentbuddha ini remember getting my ass beat .
in 1987 / 1988 for listening to atlantic star.
they had a song called always.. my mother sat me down anmd told me listening to music like that would just rile up my emotions and make me look for a girl to fornicate with.. like at the age of 10 i was going to take it to that level.. my mother later banned r and b from our home.... i find it all hilarious now, but a friend of mine actually sent me a link to the jw broadcast and said i had to watch this.. i told him there was no way, but he said just start at the 50:40 mark.. i do not believe that this is what the org is doing now???.

^^^^^ Awwww, come on Steve, the man made a bad cake for her and pretended to know where the kitchen was, and she pretended to help under the hood of a car, so I'd have to applaud it for being so progressive. /sarcasm
