However, is interesting to note that in May of 1999, when the conference took place, the WTBTS inc. still held their "associated NGO" status with the Department of Public Information .

Thank you kindly, Hawk, for clarifying your point and I agree.
These organizations have or had NO association with the United Nations in anyway including the listed Watchtower corporations.
This is true, for the other JW organizations listed in the E-Watchman's essay are said to be "observers" not "NGO's".
Updated Information: March 28, 2004
Ongoing research in the United Nations document archives has uncovered other Watchtower NGOs, which were apparently established under the umbrella of the main Watchtower Society NGO. In May, 1999, the United Nations Commission on Human Rights held their annual conference in Geneva. Among the many governmental and non-governmental organizations present are three NGOs representing Jehovah?s Witnesses. One NGO was called Association of Jehovah's Witnesses; the other was called European Association of Jehovah's Witnesses for the Protection of Religious Freedom; and a third NGO was called simply: Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia. Below is the context in which the Watchtower?s NGOs are listed . . . . . . 10. The following other non-governmental organizations were represented by observers: . . . Association of Jehovah's Witnesses . . . European Association of Jehovah's Witnesses for the Protection of Religious Freedom . . . . Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia . . .IN all fairness and honesty and as much as I would love to nail the WTBTS for more UN hypocrisy, the E-Watchman's essay is misleading and should be corrected. The fact that representatives were present at this conference as "observers" does not mean that the organizations represented by these "observers" were card carrying NGO's. It is not a valid conclusion to draw from the listing.
Best Regards,
Corvin

The key is .... did the corporation "partner" with the United Nations and in doing so did it voluntarily agree to the UN's criteria (ie. showing support for the Charter etc.). Was the corporation "associated" with the UN's DPI or did it have a consultative status with the UN's ECOSOC.
Hawk,
are you splitting hairs? what is the difference, and please excuse my ignorance, between "partnering" with the UN or "associated" with the UN? The result either way is that the organization committed spiritual fornication with an organization always denounced by the WTBTS, something that is even not to be touched. "Associating" or "partnering" is still "touching" and any affiliation with the UN, in the black and white world of the WTBTS, is still spiritual fornication and hypocrisy, is it not?
My question to anyone who can answer is this: While the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, Inc. withdrew its membership and returned their membership/library card, do they still have other branches in other countries "associated" with the "wild beast" as a NGO?

JW Service
by skeason ini was wondering if anyone could tell me how a jehovah's witness service goes.
what is different from a run of the mill methodist or baptist service?
are there things that are specific to a jw service?

Apostate is a euphemisim for a former JW who left on bad terms (or, rather, ANY terms). We're evil, vile folk who seek to undermine the WTS.
While not personally evil or vile, I do have a keen interest in seeing the WTBTS brought to its hypocritical knees, and that would be a good thing.

Taking responsibility for your actions
by dustyb insomething i realized this weekend at the circuit assembly...there are too many people that blame jehover (tm) for how they grew up, or blame satan for all the problems of the world.
why can't everyone just grow some balls and take responsibilities for their own actions?
something that i always read on this forums is frankiespeakin's threads on how jehover (tm) is a false god or doesn't exist, or solely created people to piss on.

"Sorry i had sex with a 10 year old step-daughter, satan made me do it." i know everyone says "thank god" or something when something good happens, but i just find it irresponsible to not claim your own actions if they are bad. quit blaming figments of your imagination and take responsibility up for yourselves. if you think "Jehover" is a myth, then quit blaming him for your shitty life and do somthing about it.....
You are a good person Dusty and I have enjoyed your posts, and you raise a reasonable question in this post. Be open to the answers.
Dusty, I really must agree that, as adults, we are all responsible for our own actions, and therefore, must take reponsibility for them. 90% of everything that happens to you (as an adult) you are the cause of, therefore, be careful what you cause.
It also stinks to me that most JW's blame everything on Satan, or give credit to Jehovah when the law of averages causes them to place a stupid Watchtower at a door. In doing such things, perhaps we are giving to much of our own god-given power away.
I must also say to you, young friend, that those of us who were raised in "The Truth" had no choice. We stood little chance of a normal life because, up to a certain point in our lives, our brainwashed and trapped parents were in full controll of everything we thought, did or believed. By the time we have grown to adulthood in the org, we are totally and completely conditioned with the fear, guilt and gobble-d-gook. I don't know your circumstances, however, many of those who come to post here are damaged goods, and I mean that in the most empathetic way. Have some empathy or atleast compassion for the pain so many are experiencing, Dusty, for you do not know what others have been through, and you may never know. Each of us have issues unique to ourselves based on what we went through with our families, elders and other members of the congregation. The key phrase to keep in mind is "recovery", and we are all here to either "ask for help and support" or give that "help and support". Those who come here to vent are trying desperately to break the surface from the murkey depths they lived their whole lives in. The various phases of recovery run the gamit from depression to anger, and they are very real emotions, just as real as yours and mine.
Every form of communication between to humans is either an expression of love, or a cry for help. Think about it.
Kind Regards,
Corvin

PASSION of the Christ
by myownsaviorthankyoumuch inwondering if anyone has seen it yet, and what the general consensus was around here.
i saw it a week ago this coming monday, overall i liked it, and didnt really see what the controvesy was, thought that the aramaic w/ english subtitles was a nice touch, cinematography was great, watching mary's griefmoved me a whole lot more than watching jesus get tortured, satan rocked visually, i especially enjoyed the fact that he was portrayed by a female, [that was not a comment to instigate the femenists on the board] though he had one too many hollywood moments, i really like the fact that jesus actually came across as arrogant, not the weakling he is always portrayed as during the easter season, he actually had some nads, and had something to say, that was cool, made him a lot more real in my eyes, after walking out of the theater though, i could only keep thinking to myself this was such a tragedy in the likes of homer, a hero bound for disaster, a legend told through the centuries, much like king arthur became a legend based on the events of a real man, im thinking the same must have happened with him, 80 flogs with bamboo into it i was thinking endorphines and adrenaline, yet it kept going into a second round, how he was able to walk after that and carry a cross, seemed a bit ludicrous, comments??

I took my 14 yo daughter to see the movie. We were both moved deeply. We both agreed it was a tremendous movie, but have no desire to see it again.
The blood and gore were a tad overkill, but apparently Mel Gibson had a point to make with regard to how Jesus really suffered. I get that.
One person commented on how they liked how Satan was portrayed as a female, however, I thought Satan was portrayed more as an androgenous entity, which I appreciated. That type of manifestation touched a chord in me and creeped me out. I loved the "heal bruising/head crushing" metaphor acted out in the Garden of Gethsemane w hen Jesus was praying.
Jim (Jesus) Caveisel's prosthetic nose was only noticeable at the end in the ressurection scene.
I was wondering if, when Jesus finally expired on the cross, the curtain in the Most Holy would be shown torn with the earthquake. Mel hardly missed a thing. Overall, a great movie.+

What made you leave?
by Joysome in.
by this i mean what was it specifically that said to you that this isn't the truth?
caused you to give up what you always thought was the truth?

"Caused you to give up what you always thought was the truth?"
For me, it was more of a matter of rejecting what I always thought was the truth. It was sort of like realizing you are eating food on the verge of spoiling, which made it very easy to toss.
I tell you, many things lead up to leaving, but the main thing was how the elders were handling the abuse of my children by their mother and stepfather, how they were virtually enabling continued abuse. They wanted me out of the situation, no voice, no objections as to how things were being handled implying that I was nobody to be protesting because I am a DF'd brother. That was the straw, so to speak.

Do JW's hate wearing shoes or what?
by blindfool in.
is it only the book studies i've been to or is it tradition to remove your shoes when going to a book study at someones home?.
i always have to remember to make sure my socks don't have holes in them.

My wife and I have that rule; no shoes in the house. I even built a rack in the entry way for the kids and us as well as visitors to place their shoes on when they enter. It has kept our new carpet very clean since it was installed over a year ago, and everyone is much more comfortable not wearing shoes.
The only time I have regretted the rule was when a client came over and she brought her young daughter and her daughter's best friend. The kids were asked to remove their shoes and, ooh my garsh, big mistake! The daughter's friend's feet schmelled soooooooo bad, my kids had to leave the room . . .

Yes, it is true, building a KH without windows is much less expensive, however, the KH I attended with my family from birth until I was 9yo in National City, CA, did have windows that lookded out on the parking lot. Also, the old Claydell KH in El Cajon, CA had windows up until they remodeled it in recent years. It has been my experience that most KH do not have windows.
Anyone else's Kingdom Hall have windows to let in the "new light"?
