In the city they are everywhere, I saw one man doing his street work at the bus stop on the corner, a group doing door to door in the area, I was pushing my son in his stroller, one of the JW's handed me a track, same old track...the New World one....I just took it and walked on. Some lady and her kids approached my daughter and I on the 'El' tracks, the kids were little and were trying to hug my daughter, the lady said 'they're just so used to being around their brothers and sisters at the Kingdom Hall and everyone hugs' but she wouldn't stop talking, so we walked away, very wierd.

aLCOHOLISM in the congregation
by badboy inwere there any alcoholistics in the congregation you attended?

One of our elders was an alcoholic, he was an elder from when I was a child into my adult years, always smelled of alcohol when he came to the meeting or before book study. He stepped down finally after that many years, and later died of liver damage......it was as if the other elders just turned a blind eye....great role model.

You're doing the right thing....it will give you closure one way or another, and peace of mind and a cleared conscience. You are extending your love to her, and if she reciprocates that will be entirely up to her, but atleast you'll always know that you tried and you are the one who made the effort.
I do agree with some of the other comments, sometimes a letter is best, it helps to sort your feelings in writing, if she doesn't respond by a call....I would follow up and call her, make sure she had received the letter/e-mail.....you'll know then which way it will go.
You'll do fine, take a deep breath.

Elder visit after being DF'd
by Evesapple inhas anyone ever been re-visited by the elders after being df'd or da'd for some time?
i was once in arizona about 5 years ago, fortunately i was not home, my roomate was, they asked if i was home and she said 'no', they said they were from the local congregation of jehovah's witnesses and would like to invite me back, they also asked her if she was aware that i was once associated with the witnesses and she said, 'yes, i'm very aware'....they then asked when would be a good time to get me home, she was very vague and said "i don't know really, she's training for a marathon and is very busy with school, i never really know when she's home"....they never came back, i think they got the hint, or were just too lazy to try again.
i'm sure my mother had something to do with it....her last hope i guess.

Oh well, I think that was the last I had heard of it...I've been out for 9 years...so that was the most recent news I had before my departure.
Happy Birthday by the way!

Evidently it's kind of a somewhat new arrangement that they make calls on people who may want to come back but just don't have the courage....something like that.

Biking for a reason...
by Evesapple inon june 6th i will be in tahoe doing my first century ride.
i took up biking after my baby was born, because it became difficult to keep up my running, my gait was a little off and i kept suffering injury after injury.
i felt the best way to really put my all into a new sport was to join a team.

he'll learn in time....like Princess I've always been a runner, no real attachment to my bike. Now, since my training I'm so attached to it, and very protective.

My parents and my sister do not have any contact with me.....I do ususally call my sister or e-mail to see how she and the kids are doing. I made the initiation to visit with her when I came out there (Arizona) with my new baby boy (8 months old already). My mother called me at my hotel...(yeah, I didn't even stay with them). Neither one of them ever made any attempt to come up to Chicago to visit us or contact us. Sure they sent things in the mail...but you'd expect more from family. I never did anything to either one of them.
My husband called them prior to the baby and offered my mom a bridge to bring our relationship together...she said no, she can't do that....her love for Jehovah is very important and by her doing this will maybe one day bring me back...'tough love' in other words. Ok...so, I would gravel back to people that treat me that way? The only thing their actions have confirmed to me is that their love is conditional....I have a greater span of friends and family (my husbands, and my non-JW family) that don't care if my opinion or thoughts differ from theirs. What I do with my life and how I chose to live it, is not judged by them. Do I miss my family? Yes, of course I do....but I have to almost question if the relationship we had was ever really real.
