I finally said enough is enough (shunning)
by Fleur ini did what i was asked.
all these weeks, i did all my mother asked when it came to dealing with the matters at hand for her.
i'm nothing, if not loyal.. so over the weekend, when mother called for us to please come and deal with my relatives coming to the house to pick up boxes of my grandmother's belongings.

I believe you have been blessed with a wonderful life.....it's a shame that witnesses cannot see that. I know my family is still waiting to see my life fall apart....I too found a wonderful husband (non-JW) who is always by my side and supports me...'inhumane' is exactly how they treat us. I would not give up what I have now to go back to those people.....you don't deserve how they treated you at all....it made me so angry to read your story....but you handled it very well and you did the right thing.
May you continue to be blessed you deserve to be happy.

Depression & Jehovah's Witnesses
by minimus inis it me or does it seem that nearly all jws go through depression in varying ways??
i'm not talking about what the average person could deal with because of a loss of a loved one or a job termination, etc.
i'm referring to being depressed because you're a jehovah's witness.

yup! Our whole congregation was on something and it seemed the more responsiblity you had (pioneers, elders...etc.) the worse it was....every single pioneer in our congregation was on anti-depressants.

welcome Reds! I too have been out 9 years and it drives my mother nuts not being able to see (control) my life and children (14 years old and 18 months old)....I moved to another state to start clean, met a wonderful Jewish Man got married and had a son. It's a shame what a stronghold that religeon has on them, they cannot see the stupidity of their actions. I wish you well...this site helps me a lot even if I'm just browsing through to read some of the threads its strengthening to me.

Before You Leave The Witnesses, You MUST Make New Friends!!!
by minimus inmy advice to anyone that is thinking of leaving the "organization" is to make friends (real friends) with people other than jehovah's witnesses.
the sad truth is that jws are only conditional "friends".
they will drop you like a hot potato if they think you want to leave.

I agree...when my sister left just 2 months after me, she lamented that she 'wanted to go back because she wanted friends again.....' and so she did.....
When I left I had nobody, but I made sure that when I started working again I took advantage of getting to know others at the happy hours after work... it's a process....it didn't happen right away, but there was no way in he** that would ever go back....I would have even been happier alone than to go back.
Anyway, I have a wonderful group of friends now and their love is truely unconditional......

Are You Surprised As To How You Are Now That You're Out of The "Truth"?
by minimus insince we were indoctrinated that those leaving the organiztion had their lives turn into sh*t until they "returned to jehovah (the organization), how would you say things have turned out--so far?

I'm healthier mentally, spiritually and physically. I'm more relaxed less stressed....I'm also frendlier and more outgoing. I find that I am more open to different view points, I"m less negative about the world. And was mentioned by some other posters it's sooooo wonderful to get up on a weekend morning and let the day unfold a little coffee and breakfast, read the paper go for a run.....no worries....

What shocks me more is the fact that my elder dad and gung ho mom are both out!
I'm still waiting for that to happen :) -

?'s for Believers in God
by chappy infor those here who still profess belief in god i'd like to know if religion is still an important/necessary part of that belief system.
if so, do you attend religious services?
which religion/belief system do you ascribe to?
-
Evesapple
I am very much a believer in God, I do view myself as a spiritual person as well. I do not attend religeous gatherings, my husband is reformed Jewish and so we do attend services on Friday once in a while. I find the sermons upbuilding and spiritually motivating. I try and stay connected by meditation and prayer I also love my time outdoors and being a part of nature. I believe God is in everything all around us, however one feels the need to make that connection with Him is personal and should not be judged by anyone. It is important that we live our lives honestly and to be kind and tolerant of one another. The various religions are like different roads converging on the same point. What difference does it make if we follow different routes, provided we arrive at the same destination. - -- Mahatma Gandhi

After 6 months of working on it, it's finally done
by seven006 ini haven't been posting much lately for three reasons, iv been working my butt off, also trying to slip in a little time to finish my web site, and, i no longer get the one time joy and personal fulfillment i use to get giving shit to all the christians on this board.
to be honest, i really like some of the open minded christians here even if they still hang on to the jesus myth.
my new outlook on it all is, what ever floats your rocks.. .
