Seeker,
The challenge you have posed to this thread makes me think of when one thousand economists forecast the future. One generally gets a thousand different opinions.

we all know the jw view of abortion before leaving but what about now?
how have your views changed?
i used to secretly cheer when i heard that women had gained more rights concerning abortions.

My view of abortion has a before and after.
Before and after having a child, that is.
Before: Had I gotten pregnant when I was single I would not have hestitated to abort. Yes, I believed it was a life, however, MY life was more important, so, yes, I would have ended the pregnancy. Yes, killed it. At the point in my life, I was the center of my universe.
After: Now after I have had two pregnancies and two children, no I would not abort if I got pregnant now. I do not want anymore children, however, if I were to get "knocked up", after recovering from the shock, I would prepare myself for the raising of another child. I look at my children and realize that, at one point, they were also just a little blob of cells. I could not deny another "blob" a chance at life, even if it turned my life upside down. I am no longer the center of my universe.
As far as other women go. I believe in choice. In the first tri-mester anyway. However, THEY had better consider that they have to LIVE with those choices made.

hello all, first time post, long time observer.
i have been free from the wtbts for a couple of years now, and am excited to meet some new people who have been there and done that like i have.
the big bad "world" dosent seem so bad anymore.
Hi, Infrared.
Welcome to our little corner of the realm.

in the "christmas" thread, aroarer asked this:.
: ...have researched christmas in a new way and have come to realize it is not as evil as wt teaches.
the real ugliness is the wt.
This Watchtower stuff about "Jehovah's Witnesses don't need holidays to be generous. They do it all year around," is a total bunch of crap from my personal exeriences.
ahhhhh...Memories. I heard THAT one more than a few times.
Reading it now makes my digestive system come extremely close to doing one of those disgusting, unholy, body functions that is the theme of another thread.

Resisting, mightily, to not projectile vomit her breakfast.
what things do you guys hate, why, and what do you do about it?.
ashi.
"you ever get lonely?.".
I hate it when, even after several phone calls, my newspaper delivery person still throws my newspaper in the sprinklers where it gets all soggy.
I hate it when someone says they didn't do something, when they DID.
I hate it when my kids antagonize each other.
I hate SURVIVOR
I hate bad hair days
I hate being broke
I hate peas
I hate over-inflated egos that won't admit they are wrong
I hate cockroaches
I hate it when I really like a product and then the store I shop at decides to discontinue it.
I hate that my family is so fractured
I hate the WTBTS

this is sort of a continuation of threads on dubs and how they are conditioned to discipline their children.
someone questioned whether the society actually encouraged dubs to whup their children.
i only had enough time to dig up a few salient quotes from the wt magazine.
I'm sure it is, Msil. I hope you had a ball!
Being beaten by an individual that is suppose to PROTECT you from harm is not only physically scaring, but emotionally scaring too.

Teejay,
I do NOT think you will regret your decision not to spank you child.
My best girl friend comes from a family of six kids. Before we were both old married ladies and shared an apartment, we were expecting a visit from her parents. I remember how she spoke of her Dad. Very strict with her upbringing and didn't put up with any bull from his brood.
Of course, I assumed that she really had some stories to tell about the beatings that must have gone on in HER house. I mentioned that and she looked at me with shock and said "Oh! My parents never HIT us, EVER!" Then she started to tell me about some of the creative disipline they got that actually TAUGHT them something. Isn't that the point of disipline?? To teach our kids? Anyway, after she told me that, it was my turn to be shocked. It was almost beyond my comprehension not to be hit.
Interesting thing about that her family. They are also athiests. The whole group of them. However, they are the nicest, most well adjusted, supportive of each other, undysfunctional family I have ever known.

Being beaten, and being threatened to being beaten, was a prominent parenting tool with my JW Dad. It wasn't all JW influenced because he came from a poor southern family, that wasn't JW, that subscribed to the "Go pick your own switch off the tree" mentality. His favorite tool, however, was the belt. The purple strap marks that I got on my back and legs as a result of those beatings, was something I was determined my own children would never have to experience.
Here's sad story.
When I "worked" I supervised a JW woman. I remember her telling me, with a bit of pride, I might add, how her little granddaughter wouldn't sit still at the meeting the night before. She explained how her son had to take her in the back and give her a good spanking. And how she could hear her sad cries.
Her granddaughter was 18 months old.

here i sit using this infernal aol-tv box yet again.. i broke down and bought a real computer at best buy a month ago.
i don't have it now, though and that is as paul harvey says "the rest of the story".. since a good friend of mine since high school was a technician at best buy, i felt comfortable buying the system.
i should have seen it coming.
I, personally, have never bought a computer from Best Buy. However, I have a friend that has a "Best Buy Computer Horror Story". It sounds eerily similar to yours, Bendrr. Thanks for sharing your extremely frustrating experience. I hope that it all works out in the end.
Andee
Who is grateful that she has a sister who is a computer techie, and built her current system from scatch for half of what you pay at Best Buy.
