Question for Hillary or ?

hillary,.

you seem rather well-educated about inside workings of the watchtower so i'm hoping that you might know the answer to my question.

i have asked it on several threads but no one seems to know.

"The privilege pertaining to clergy-penitent also is frequently recognized, but limited to situations in which a clergy person becomes aware of child abuse through confessions or in the capacity of spiritual advisor. However, five States, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Texas, and West Virginia, deny the clergy-penitent privilege."

But I'm positive that CA is a reporting state, and it has often been said that there are 13 states that are reporting, not 5. Is this info on this website old or am I not understanding it correctly?

do we have a double standard as far as jws are concerned?

yes, i know that their claims of being better than any other religion sets them up for higher expectations.

and yes, generally jws are judgemental.

while we were kind of taught that the Protestants were to be pitied (with kindness and tact), we were never instructed in any way shape or form to look down on them. While we were taught to be proud and happy of the fact that we were in the "true" religion and on the "narrow road", we never were taught to denigrate the contributions non-Catholics made to society. Loving tolerance was stressed; even while we were to pray and hope for those not of our faith to join us, we were never instructed to look down on them. Now, I realize the Catholic church came down hard on the JWs in the past, but one can hardly blame them as the WTS frequently and blatantly attacked the Catholic church.
The same CAN NOT be said of Witnesses.

Beryl, that sounds EXACTLY like the way JWs are taught. At least that was the way I was taught for 30 years. The whole reason why JWs are taught to go door to door was out of love for people in other religions. I never heard any instruction or teaching that at all suggested you look down on people that weren't JWs (unless of course they were ex-JWs.)

No I don't, I think you make a good point. Let me rephrase then...actually I can't quite remember exactly what my original phrase was, but replace "pseudo-intellects" with "the organizers of many other religions" and see if that works.

And on a side note, in JWs defense, I think your above statement is unfair. I don't know a single JW that is "thriving on the anticipation of the imminant deaths of billions and billions of people, including children and babies." Every single one I know is thriving on the survival of themselves and their family.

Witnesses sanctimoniously proclaim to be absolutely superior and correct about religion, morality, science, behavior, earth, heaven, death, and life.

Dedalus, I do not think the JW's are the only ones that think this way. I would have to say the same thing about every average pseudo-intellect.

Great questions! I see some emphatic replies coming. I think it's hard to blanket everyone as being one way or another...but the loudest minority is often seen as the majority...and there are plenty on this board that let their bitterness and anger taint their view of JW's. I've been labeled as a JW Apologist for sticking up for them when I think they are unfairly criticized.

Bay Area Dubs

i just talked to my ex about her weekend and she said something that really disturbed me.

she spent the weekend up in the bay area (sf area of ca) with a bunch of dubs.

she was telling me about them and made the comment of them being different from the stuffy here in fresno.

She may have not been exagerrating. All along the West Coast SF/Oakland/Berkeley, LA, San Diego, you will find a lot of 'liberal" JWs.

I sent an email to the WT asking if they were the spawn of Satan. They replied within an hour saying not only are they the spawn of Satan, but they are also the leaders of the Bilderberg group.

If the fellow that recorded that tape got his feelings hurt from these responses then so be it. I've no pity for a person who makes a feeble attempt to entrap someone else and to make unfounded implications of wrong doing. The WT guy was probably trying to get off the phone as quick as possible, so as not to waste his time over some nutty guy with a $5 donation. And when he tried to entrap him with saying it was for military, political, etc, etc, the Wt fellow simply corrected him saying it was received for the Holocaust fund...groan!

JW Soap Opera Update.....

my mother informed me today that they disfellowshiped the po of my old hall, as well as the wife of one of the ministerial servants.

you guessed it, they were having an affair.

this came as no surprise to me because i always knew he was shady.

but I do judge the fact that JW's present themselves as "above everyone else on issues such as adultery, fornication, etc.".

I see this a lot on the board and feel the need to clarify this. I don't think JWs, as a whole, think they are more perfect than other people (at least I or the people I knew never did.) But they do feel differentiated for not tolerating this kind of stuff through DFing. And before the onslaught of replies about how they don't DF child molesters...we all know they DF people all the time (something I disagree with) and most JWs look at that as making them a cleaner organisation for not tolerating wickedness.

As far as hip hop goes, you can have Tupac (greatest rapper ever my eye!), I'd much rather listen to Jurassic 5, Blackalicous, Latyrx (or either Lateef or Lyrics Born who are in Latyrx) or the Lifesavas.
