Overall would probably be a toss up between Belle & Sebastian - Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like A Peasant and The Beta Band - Hot Shots II. As for recently, I can't get The Postal Service - Give Up out of my car CD player.

I was actually impressed that two of the posters seemed to acknowledge the problem. That Joe fella acknowledged that the organization is imperfect indirectly acknowledging that these problems can exist. And then that other sister said Jehovah let the program air for a reason and that maybe some congregations have been a haven for child molesters. To me this says that the programs had the desired effect in bringing awareness to this problem to everyone, including those in the religion.

I think it would have to be HillaryStepisonlymadbecausehiscomputerdoesn'thaveenoughmemorytodownloadmusic
But then again it doesn't require any certain amount of memory to download music, just hard drive space.

I just typed a long reply only to have it blown away by an error!
Anyway...HS, what are your thoughts on the sale of used CDs and records then?
I often go back and forward on the ethics of file sharing. Personally, I use it as a means of listening to new music while I'm at work, or getting music I only have on vinyl. If I like the band, I will usually go buy their CD (sometimes new, sometimes used.) I realize that not everyone does this and some rely on just burning CDs rather than buying them. However, would these same people be going out to buy these CDs if file sharing wasn't around? I tend to think not, but I don't know that. So I think it is hard to say if artists are losing money over file sharing. Most "starving artists" aren't popular enough to have their files shared...and if they are, I would imagine it only means that people that would have never heard their music otherwise are being exposed to it. The type of consumer that makes the effort to discover rising bands usually makes the effort to support them through purchases. So when I download the newest songs from The Postal Service, I know that it is worth buying and head out to my local record store (or local internet site.) I've told some friends to download their stuff and they have done the same thing. If it wasn't for file sharing, I probably wouldn't have bought that CD for quite a while as there a number of other albums I wanted ahead of it (not everything's downloadable!) I was introduced to Will Oldham and Bonnie Prince Billy through file sharing...he can thank file sharing for yet another purchase. Again, it is my assumption that the type of people that use file sharing to pilfer artist's music would not have been making purchases anyway. I like that assumption and it makes me feel alright participating in file sharing so I will stick with it unless swayed otherwise.

War Quiz

and al qaeda.

Nice one joannadandy!
Adam- "anyone can take the same points, replace anit-war politicians..."
Well let's see it then. And we'll see if it is nearly as compelling.
By the way, I believe I am the one that you quoted as "not supporting the troops" which I don't. But let me ask you this...what does "support the troops" mean to you? How do YOU support the troops? I do not support what is going on in Iraq so I cannot offer any moral support, besides what form is this moral support offered in anyway? What are you doing to "support the troops?" I hope every troop makes it home alive with as little traumatic effect on them as possible. That's the support I give. And if I find myself in a situation where I can help a vet, I'd have no problem with that. So please don't take my quotes out of context in the future as I believe this was explained in the original thread.
Also, the tone of that first statement carried the implication that the anti-war movement was MORE supportive of the troops than the Bush administration and, by implication, those that agree with what it's doing.
Then you missed the point. The point was that pro-war arguments often criticize anti-war people with "not supporting the troops" kind of like you did about me. The point was to show the hypocrisy in this when Bush is sending new troops to Iraq, but cutting aid to existing vets. I guess existing vets support time expired.
2. Is patriotism defined by stopping traffic, interrupting commerce, attacking police, and becoming a human shield for a leader that our country's armed forces is currently trying to topple?
First of all, a red herring. Second of all, yes, this country was founded on dissent. Third I, and most people I assume, do not condone attacking the police. Fourth, I know of no "patriots" that have headed to Iraq as a human shield.
UN resolution 1441 said he must tell us where they are now or what happened to them. Saddam refused.
So where is the UN resolution that says the punishment will be for the US to attack Iraq?
I don't know enough about your # 4 to respond.
Obviously we have a fight with the Iraqi people. I mean, look at the billions in aide we're sending. Look at the soldiers risking their lives to keep the aid supply routes open. Look at the money we're spending on precision weapons when it would be so much cheaper carpet bomb the whole damn place.
Yet another Red Herring to the points brought out by joannadandy's thread. Do you really think this out of care of Iraqi's rather than Global politics? We are already being painted as the "bad guy" in this war, so the Pentagon will naturally do everything it can to make it seem like we are the "good guys." Otherwise, where was the care for Iraqi's during the sanctions?

Swan, I see what you are saying and don't doubt that they may have rationalized their actions in the way that you depict. But I think that thinking is twisted to average JW's as well. I don't think many JW's would read that article and think that it was a good thing because the children are being sent off. I think the average JW would think that article is a horrible tragedy and would rely on the resurrection as a hope for the poor children who had their lives stolen from them. I'm just speaking from my experience with the JWs I know.

This story is very upsetting. I agree with Bittersweet. Even if he is telling the truth about his wife killing the children, he admitted to murdering one of his own children to cover himself. He should rot in jail with no chance of parole.

ThiChi, first you say:
not only was a warning shot fired, a volley of rounds were fired into the radiator.
Then you say:
Your continuing to paint the US in the worst possible light is very telling. Like vultures, you wait for anything that might work. As you all rely on false assumptions to state your claims, I will wait for the facts to emerge as the investigation continues.......
That seems to be a contradiction when you accuse others of using faulty information but you can make claims like a "volley of rounds were fired into the radiator."
Here are the facts as we know them....civilians and children died. They were shot by US troops. If the US hadn't taken the aggressive by entering Iraq, those people may have continued to live. They are "collateral damage" of the war. And in my mind, this war does not have enough justification to be worth this collateral damage.
