since the rise of biotech, the possibility of eternal life and an easy cure for cancer have been widely discussed and speculated about.. .
now, however, it looks like the cancercells themselves are teaching scientists how to stop the agingprocess and bringing us closer to eternal life.
millions living now will never die!!!.

what do you think would happen if the world or at least a large powerful nation accepted and practised the gospel as it is without watering it down?
To consider whether the Bible or part of the Bible can accomplish good in this way, it is helpful to compare it to other books that actually have accomplished good.
To Kill a Mockingbird is on many lists of the top 100 books of the 20th century (from the Boston Public Library: http://www.bpl.org/research/AdultBooklists/influential.htm). People report changing their lives for the good after reading this book. The book does not require belief. It requires serious consideration of thematic elements that apply in the real world. If a person is not willing to expend the effort to consider what the author has to say, nothing changes. It is difficult to conceive of someone becoming a worse person as a result of reading it.
How about the Bible? Readers are promised other-worldly rewards, but only if they believe that the contents of the book came from God. They therefore have a selfish incentive to accept the contents, even when these describe killing and maiming by God and his followers. It is not difficult to imagine bad results coming from a book like this. It is not necessary to detail the way the book has been abused.
Why is the Bible, and not To Kill a Mockingbird, abused like this? Because of the nature of the contents. If the authors/compilers wanted the Bible to make the world a better place, they did a very, very poor job. Indeed, one would have to consciously work to create a book that causes more discord.
It is possible to write books that are clear, thought-provoking, and beneficial to their readers. The Bible is simply not one of these books.

one more blurb from the current gilead class, as presented by one of the astute instructors (and forwarded in an e-mail):.
satan really tricked eve.
not only did she break jehovah's law about the .
A talking snake convinces a naked chick to eat a piece of fruit, and the only cure is torture and kill a good man. Makes sense to me.
RunningMan, it's so good to see that you're finally coming around to Christianity!

just curious, with all the internet bashing, etc, if a bethelite wanted to have internet access in their room, would it be allowed.. if so, i wonder if they monitor the activity?
Okay, the proxy thing could be tough to set up for a non-technical person, but how about this: internet over a dial-up connection (point-to-point to the ISP, impossible for Bethel to monitor), using a browser such as Firefox that allows you to totally erase your history (history, images, cookies, everything) at the end of each session. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you easily can do that in Firefox, cantcha?

what do most ex jws become, christian, athiest/agnostic or some other religion?
and since we all need to be labelled, what do i call myself now?
I like the term agnostic. Since i used to know everything, and everyone else knew nothing, i like to now admit i have no idea.
That sounds like a good place to be. I believe that it is a very honest place to be.
Don't worry about labels. In fact, if you find yourself in conversations with Witnesses, labels are almost always counterproductive to your cause, since Witnesses are usually eager to figure out which box they should put you in. Just be a person who has a viewpoint. Your viewpoint will surely change over time. No need to go box-hopping if you never adopt a box. :-)

I just want to point out that communications over an SSL connection are secure from snooping between your browser and the receiving server, with the exception that routers in between can see the destination (not the contents) of the communications.
If you are on a network that is being monitored, you can therefore provide communication privacy by connecting to a proxy server outside the network via an SSL connection. The monitors will be able to see that you are connecting to the proxy server, but will be unable to know what your actual destination or communication content is.
Hope that helps!

well, last night i was completely determined to tell my wife just three things i had learned.
i was just going to focus on lies - not scripture, or stupid stuff ... just lies.. 607/1914trinity (trinity brochure lies)cross (reasoning book lies and archeaology).
if she starts to question other stuff, or if she starts in on a debate about the trinity, i was going to shut her down and let her know i am willing to talk to her about that - but not right now.
ithinkisee,
Just wanted to say good luck, and I'm following your story with best wishes.

i am no longer a witness.
i've told all my worldly friends and my immediate family - my kids have told their friends.
i haven't been to a meeting in over a year (and have no desire to go to one) - but i'm not dad or dfd.
Sometimes ex-JWs feel the need to be in some kind of religion so strongly that they suffer from "out of the frying pan and into the fire" syndrome. Don't feel like you have to be in some formal belief system. The world won't come grinding to a halt if you take a moment to step back and assess where you stand. Do some reading, maybe take some college courses, educate yourself, and allow yourself to discover what makes sense to you.
Not having a 192-page book of answers is not some kind of barren wilderness. It's an honest place that allows you to ask questions and seek knowledge in whatever way the evidence seems to point. Take your time, go at your own pace. Perhaps make your children part of the learning process. You'll do fine.
