awww, BD, ya missed the part where I agreed with ya on the screwed up situation of women getting pregnant without the fella's consent and then forcing him to pay. Thus my ongoing lecture to my son and men in general. Unless those laws are changed, what other best alternative can you offer? good lawyers I guess and more power to them. There are plenty of conscience-less people in both genders. That's why I taught my daughter not to count 100% on any man to support a kid if she gets pregnant. Works both ways, see?
Just because I feel that way doesn't mean I want to give up my rights to control decisions about pregnancy.

I agree regarding the domestic laws. Makes me glad to be a female. Thus my point ... if you're worried, don't do the deed.
This great dominion over my body is mine. Tough luck for you I guess. Wouldn't it be grand if men could get pregnant too? Bet they wouldn't take too kindly to someone telling them what they should or shouldn't do. In the meantime, I say mind your business mate and don't worry about mine, 'kay?
As far as suicide and drugs ... well those laws are working pretty well too now, aren't they?
I don't really feel to sorry for all of you men out there ... mostly thinking with the wrong part of your anatomy is what get you into your messes in the first place. *ducks to avoid incoming artillery*

Of course it is consensual. Maybe I didn't express it very well. Men have complete control of whom they have sex with. IMO, that is the ONLY point where you have control over whether or not you will impregnate someone. With the decision of whether or not to have sex. After that, you can basically have no control over the consequences. A woman can say she is using birth control. And not be. The condom can break. Once pregnant, the woman decides what shall happen (in USA, that is). She is in the driver's seat upon lift off, so to speak. So, ultimately there is only one point when it is entirely up to you. And that is whether or not you do it. How much do you trust that your partner's motives and beliefs are in line with yours.
Maybe that is a little clearer as to my opinion?

Big Dog:
Men ultimately have the first say. Don't do the deed at all. Actually that is the only point you will have a say, and it is the absolute control point.
I taught my son (22 now), that the only time he will have a say in the matter is at the most important time. He can control whether or not conception takes place. It is very simple. After that, it is a woman's choice to control her own body. Like it or not.
And frankly I believe that is the only way it should be. All of you fellas should just stay the hell away from trying to tell any of us what we can or cannot do with our bodies or anything happening within it.
Mini, I believe you've put up this thread before. sigh. but my answer is I am for every woman's absolute right for dominion over her body. Period.

Do You Think Bag Searching Violates Your Rights?
by minimus inin view of the transit bombings, do you feel that police should be able to search you or your bags at anytime?

Hell Yeah!! I agree, there are some simply amazing comments on this thread. f00king A, mini ... did youi really say if someone looks like a terrorist they should be searched?? another poster addressed my reaction ... the American terrorists who aren't arabic ... and were very successful in their goals .... guess they'd be overlooked for those searches you'd like since they didn't fit the profile, eh? EvilF- I had the same reaction! I mean Christ, have folks actually stopped and thought about what the real impact of widespread searching will mean on our society as a whole. I fly about every other week and it is the biggest pain in the ass. Expand that to entering mass transit locations, etc. Shall we just become one big police state? Interesting how folks rarely ever suggest we make a real effort at addressing why all of these people are easily swayed into becoming brainwashed terrorists ... instead let's just surrender our rights to our trustworthy officials who have done such a fine job getting us where we are today. What could it be that would make 3 young men, born and raised in the UK, commit the acts they did? What is it that turns hundreds of beautiful young Palestinian men into human bombs? Why is it that terrorism is spreading like a rapid-fire cancer throughout the world? I for one don't believe it is just religious fanaticism. What is it that makes these young people so vulnerable? hmmmm.....

"terrorist backlash" ... hmmm, a lovely topic indeed. now the part about Katie's mom was heartening indeed ... unfortunately the real crux of the situation is far less lovely I do believe.
as far as my great knowledge ... that's rich! no really, I had just sent off a note to a friend extolling the long list of that about which I know nothing! your timing couldn't be better!
You're right about the direction of the topic being sidelined by a bit of a debate. But when you pose a question ... as you did I'm afraid ... then you are bound to receive responses ... some will differ from yours .... thus the debate you refer to ... tis what makes the board go round.
I'm more than willing to agree to disagree. Been here long enough to know that is most always the best approach, especially on the political topics where my views vary greatly from the majority here on good ole JWD.
enjoy your Sunday Carol.
