Congregation witch hunt?
by dothemath inheard about a congregation recently that had a local needs talk regarding going to the elders if any wrongdoing had happened, or if you knew of someone involved.. mostly they were concerned with over-indulging in alcohol, but the elder emphasized "the need to get help from elders, or your spirituality would be harmed".
(words to that effect).
so now there's brothers and sisters running to see these guys, and likely over stuff that happened maybe years ago.. funny thing is the brother telling me about it said there's been several meetings now where people's names are read from the platform, and it looks like it'll be going on for a while.. i think if your conscience was bothering you, you would be better off being catholic, at least your only confessing to one person instead of being shamed in front of eveyone..

The sinking ship
by dothemath ini can't even count the number of talks that have mentioned......."why build(paint, fix, etc.
) on a sinking ship?.
of course referring to the world in general.. these days i'm thinking that maybe the "sinking ship" is the watchtower society......... the magazing will probably be down to 2 pages in a few more years........ in our area most of the cities that had 4 congregations are now down to 2, and i know of several.

Organ donation
by dothemath ini'm sure very few (if any) jw's donate organs, with the paranoia about blood, etc.
years ago it was condemned as "cannabilism".. yet now, it's okay to accept an organ donation..........at least some organs, anyway.
(i recall a life experience in the awake where the individual benefited from a kidney transplant).

Watchtower and parents
by dothemath inthere has been a lot of advice given to parents from the organization over the years.........mainly "don't have any"............ it seems that the ones who would make the best parents (from the society's point of view) are the very ones following this counsel and for the most part are deciding against children.
our cong.
has many childless couples...........they're very theocratic.. this results (in many cases) the not so "spiritually strong" individuals being the ones who are raising families in many congregations.. (i mentioned recently about a pioneer couple being interviewed at a district convention several years ago.........when asked by the do about their goals...........they mentioned they had "vowed" to never own a house, and "vowed" to never have children...........do said "that's great!

Conversation with an ex-bethelite
by dothemath ini ran into a young brother a while ago who had just been let go from bethel and was now back out west.. i was curious about his perspective on what it was like there (especially after reading some of the horror stories on this site).
actually he absolutely loved it there, and would go back if he could (seemed sincere).. i guess some enjoy the institutional life more than others.
he has had to go back to work, and isn't pioneering, so maybe reality is setting in.. was just wondering if any others had info on how the ex-bethelites are doing..

District Convention
by dothemath in.
does anyone have information about what's being released this year?
i always like to have a little advance knowledge.. or any other interesting facts about the program.. from the title "godly obedience".......i'm assuming it's all about obeying the society, with warnings every 1/2 hour about apostates, etc.

The last days?
by dothemath init seems with the recent assembly about "keeping on the watch" many are totally excited about armageddon.. i've heard numerous descriptions about the last days......... for example- "we are now in the final part of the end of the last days".
-"it's as if we're approaching the final minutes of this system".
-"the end is closer than it has ever been before".

world cup
by dothemath in.
i tried to watch some soccer a couple of days ago.......but fell asleep.
i'm afraid it just isn't my cup of tea..........especially after the great nhl playoffs we just had.. just trying to understand why it's the world's number one sport (or so i hear)..............i'm sure there are a few soccer fans out there, what do you like about it?
