WTS Deception on Alternative Military Service
by AlanF inuntil 1996 the watchtower society's official policy was that a young jw man who volunteered for alternative military service, rather than being imprisoned or letting a court sentence him to some kind of alternative civilian service, had violated christian neutrality and therefore was either to be disfellowshipped or declared to have voluntarily disassociated himself from the jw organization.
beginning in 1978, the governing body voted on changing this policy a number of times, and generally had a simple majority who voted for change, but because the gb had a policy that all changes needed a 2/3 majority, and that was never reached until 1996, the policy remained.. in 1996, it appears that jehovah changed his mind, and so via divine direction instructed the governing body to change its policy.

Suzi Mayhem Outdoes John Cleese
by AlanF ina critique of suzi mayhem's theory of god .
i thought, when suzi first posted this, that it was a joke something like john cleese's classic "brontosaurus theory" skit in a monty python episode.
but mr. "dark clouds" has sort of asked me to critique it as if it were a serious theory, so here goes.. i'll address this to suzi, but suzi dear, don't take this too seriously.

You Know's Spiritual Mad Cow Disease
by AlanF init's evident to all readers besides fredhall that our beloved you know is suffering from spiritual mad cow disease.
parallel to the disease after which it is named, it is contracted by eating spiritual food infected with an unusual pathogen which gets deep into the brain and gradually destroys it.
symptoms include instability, uttering loud noises and falling on one's face.. spiritual mad cow disease is propagated in an interesting way.

For Uncle_Onion
by AlanF inbeen away for a few days, but i noticed that you posted a number of questions about c14 dating.. i strongly recommend that you read all the material you can find concerning c14 on the talk.origins website.
so far as i know, every one of your questions has been answered there, since you're pulling them off a yec website that merely repeats standard and long-debunked yec claims.
you really need to do your own research in this area if you want to understand it, and the talk.origins site will give you far better and more detailed information that will point you in directions where you can do your own research in primary source materials than anyone i know of on our discussion board is willing to provide.

Question for Kismet from AlanF
by AlanF ini've been away for a few days, so haven't kept up with postings.. kismet, last week you complained to me in my "greenlees sources" thread that i had not taken into account certain information you had provided me in past posts/emails/whatever.
i asked you to provide some kind of pointers to that information so that i could take it into account, or for you to tell me about it again.
i saw no response from you.

Confirming WTS Scholastic Dishonesty
by AlanF insome information i just received solidly nails the watchtower society's coffin shut in the intellectual honesty department.. since the society published the brochure should you believe in the trinity?
in english in 1989, a number of people have complained that many of the citations were misrepresentations of the intent of the authors, or simply did not show what the society's writer claimed.
this is in keeping with many other wts publications, such as the infamous 1985 creation book, which i have demonstrated contains at least a hundred misrepresentations, misinterpretations and assorted scholastic inaccuracies.. the society, as usual, gives incomplete citations for its source references in the trinity brochure.
