Did you get to say Goodbye...?

i know that they are conditional friends.

i also know i will make more friends.

i have said goodbye to some and upset the elders by telling jw friends that i don't believe the wts any more.

My fade for the first year or so was unintentional, accidental. I was very ill, depressed and had moved twice. So there are a few people that I think of and hope they are as well as can be. There are others who I don't cae one way or the other. I've actually met up with a very small number of the ones that I used to know and still care for. I told them I wasn't going to the meetings anymore but left it at that.

i am writing this group to discuss a topic that as you can imagine i really cannot discuss with too many people, at least as of now.

i am a married male jw, married to a another jw, and she's content with being a witness, and in fact, i don't want to change that if she's happy.. for a very brief history, i was baptized at 19, and have been a jw for 10 years.

fact is, i 'believed' in everything in as much as a lot of it 'made sense' and i was wrapped up in the whole thing.

I'm glad you're ok. Don't stop figureing it out, but at least now you can take a mental sigh of relief. Have you been talking with your child at all about this? He/she may be relieved to knwo that daddy and mommy don't think the big scary is real. Good luck with the continued effort.

with my 22 year old df'd son in a very nearby city, and having met a few here that i want to do stuff with, how do i go about this?

thanks to my son, who has some older df'd friends, i was able to spend a couple of weeks at the beach together with them the last two summers.

it was me and five evil df'd ones on my boat, so i called a dub friend who was friends with the beach gang, and told him i was on the ussdf!

I don't think you should lie, but to omit the details of theire JW status sounds ok. Just don't volountere information that is not requested or relevant. Have fun.

Could You Live Without God?

i have said before in past posts - i think a belief in a god is because of two bad reasons.. 1. ignorance (not always deliberate at all) of certain facts.

the universe and life on earth was not designed.. 2. wanting to believe in a god.. so, to focus on the second, i can see why people would want there to be a god.. you see dead loved ones again, you live forever, you have a purpose set out for you, you feel there's always a being with you through even your most difficult times.

for those who believe in a god, could you live without one?

Isn't that kinda a gross understatement or oversimplification?

It could just as easily be said that "You don't believe in a 'god' because you don't want to."

jwd confusion in relationship... help

He may not be physically beating you, but this is a control & abuse dynamic. If you value yourself one iota you will get out of this relationship. You may THINK you love him and that he loves you, but you're blinding yourself. Get out. Get away. He has problems that he has no way of coping with so he's just looking for someone to be miserable with him, to take the edge off.

Because this is your life and you are too close to get an external view, think of it this way...If one of your closest girlfriends came to you with this story what would you tell her?

JWs are messed up, do not get involved with them.

Not directed at you, but the general populace: Why! Why! Why do so many women get into abusive relationships and then they're surprised? Hey, men do it too, but still Why?!?

My sister is in a physically abusive relationship, so this pushes my buttons some.

Short answer: Two editions. One for placement in service to non JWs. The other is the 'study' edition, also refered to here as the 'kool aid' edition. That edition has 4 study articles for the WT study. There are lots of threads going back at least six months discussing this topic in greater detail.

Anybody out there an Agnostic mentally but a Believer at Heart? (like me)

first off, i no longer believe the bible to be the inspired word of god.

but with my heart i want to believe.

i love the idea of an all-powerful deity that cares for me and the rest of humanity.

Maybe, I want to say 'No', but I am am not sure of what lable to choose.

I do NOT believe in the god of the bible. Or Koran. Or Torah. In my view that is not and can not be ~~god~~ the creator od the universe. I don't even like the word 'god', its got too much baggage.

I do believe that the universe has a purpose, there's a point to it all, but I don't know what exactly that may be.

I believe that the universe is conscious and aware, and maybe that is what 'god' is. I believe that we are here to grow and evolve, likely there is reincarnation, and the evolving as individuals and as groups is our purpose. I think the suffering that we experience teaches us, or teaches others, how to be compassionate beings and also teaches us how to effect change in the world around us.

I think most New age stuff is just mindless fluff, but there are pieces hidden within that are of interest. For that matter I think most religions also have tiny elements of the big picture buried within.

I think that life could be just one big video game, and at the end, 'god' or who ever greets us and says 'awesome game, what did you learn, want to go again?'

I'm not set in stone about any of this, and I'm not interested in packaging this for resale.
