If I were her, and I would also likely have recorded the argument, I would have just kept my mouth shut about being a witness or even recording it. In this age, I think the best course of action is to remain invisible, anonymous, under any radar. Why do people find it so impossible to shut the hell up? I'm posting under Firefox so can't be sure if the formatting will hold.

Cars that run on charcoal?
by darkuncle29 inhey people, haven't been around for a while but i had a question i wanted to pose.
does anyone else remember from some really old jw yearbooks -i'm thinking 1920's to 1940's- stories from the australian outback of the full time traveling pioneers using trucks and cars that ran off of charcoal or wood chips?
i know that the idea of burning the gasses from "destructive distillation" can work, either as a flame or to power an engine.

Hi JD, no they were not steam. The cars had a canister that the exhaust heated. In the cannister was coal, charcoal or sawdust, and that was heated in a sealed atmosphere to the temperature that it would normally burn. The gasses released were put into the carberateur and burned in the pistons. So with charcoal I think you'd end up with Carbon Monoxide gas, but with wood you'd have some hydrocarbons too.
Hey BFD, no I didn't buy a mine, but I've got sawdust on the brain from helping a friend cut down some trees last weekend. How you doing? Did you use up that soap yet?
For the car, I was thinking that in the canister or distillation chamber, I'd start it by first having an electric element heat the stuff untill it can support engine combustion, and after that, the exhaust can heat the cannister and keep the cycle going, maybe supplemented by the electric element heater in cold weather. I remember reading a news story a couple of years ago about a guy in California who runs his stretch hummer on gas supplemented with dry matter -wood, charcoal, dog food (any dry organic matter really)-
My problem is that I am not naturally talented with mechanical stuff, and most gear heads (that I know of anyway) are more into hot rodding than altering their cars to run on "Mad Max" methods.

I know there are a handful of chemists who could explain that better on here, but I'm also interested in hearing from car people. What would need to be done to get this to work? Thanks.

How do you handle ... being shunned?
by Awakened at Gilead inmy da announcement was last tuesday, so i have been on the official jw shun list for about a week now.... i am curious how you handle shunning.my situation:.
i have spoken with my family (my parents and 1 brother) and discussed whether they will shun me.
i explained that biblically they should not shun me since i am not an antichrist, and i have not rejected the teaching that jesus cam in the flesh.

Hi A&G. I think that since you have no control over others and their actions forget them. You only have control over yourself, and what kind of person you want to be. So I say be kind and treat them like any body else. Walk tall, smile, let your eyes shine, but let your actions be for you. Not exactly Zen, probably a bit crzy, oh well. Are congratulations in order?

Bizarre Foods
by Layla33 inhave any of you seen the show, "bizarre foods with andrew zimmern"?
for some reason i have become a huge fan of this show and i am always interested in what kind of things people all over the world eat and how much of it i would actually even think of eating.. what is the strangest thing you have ever eaten?
and what was your response when you ate it?.
-
darkuncle29
The most unusual creature I've eaten is skate and for me that's out there as I do not eat seafood. I do like some seaweeds.
The nastiest thing I can eat and keep down is Limburger cheese.
That duck fetus thing, I used to have an incubator and hatch my own eggs and the guy where I bought my feed offered me $24 for a dozen eggs as he had customers who asked for that sort of thing. I couldn't do it.
Its not really a bizarre food, but I like to cook with a Dutch oven and that's one of the things I miss most about camping.

"A New Earth"...think any JW's are reading this?
by TweetieBird ini was watching oprah yesterday and she was talking about how some people are afraid to read this because they think it will interfere with their religious beliefs.
it got me to wondering if any believing jw's are reading this.

darkuncle29
Not only would good JWs avoid this book, but alot of fundy Christians are bothered by it too. I read it a month ago, thought it was interesting and also went out and bought The Power of Now.
People with "one way only" worldviews will feel threatened by this author and his books. I like the ideas he writes about, to me it is a way of describing much of the deeper Taoist/Bhuddist concepts in a way that is more accesible to the western mind. There are alot of videos on youtube showing him and oprah, and some are posted by freaky fundy's who claim that oprah has renounced Jesus.

He is a crazy dill hole. You need to delete him from your life. Then you need to talk with a mental help professional about why you would even choose such a man, if you don't heal that issue your next guy will be worse.
You could probably do some of that work towards healing yourself. Take a pice of paper and write on it a list of traits you think are healthy for a man to exhibit in a relationship. Take another and write the unhealthy list. Maybe show these to a therapist or clsoe friend who shows good judgement. Then post the good list on your fridge or where you'll see it every day.
You sound so smart and inteligent, I can't wrap my brain around how you wound up with the Cocoa Puff bird on crack.
My sister is in an abusive addictive phase right now. Currently her dill hole is in jail, and she is in Tacoma, but she continually makes bad choices that lock her in more. That is why I say you need to fix or even just become aware of the underlying emotional issue that leads you to this. Her pattern was of choosing worse and worse guys, until she found this one who physically beats her. When she gets away from him I used to hope that she finially "got it" and learned the lesson, but I've stopped holding my breath and running to her aid everytime she says boo-hoo.
I feel sympathy for you, I just hope that you can get the help you need to end the cycle that your parents started teaching you.
