Serving alcohol when a recovering alcoholic is present
by unbeliever ini don't want to piss anybody off with this post so please don't get offended.
my family always goes all out for thanksgiving and x-mas.
part of that going all out means lots of booze.

My step father as well as a friend of mine who are both alcoholics drink the NA beer. They haven't had any relapses.. I was also thinking the non alcoholic margaritas, etc and they don't have any alcohol at all.

VOTE FOR A CAMPGROUND PLEASE
by pettygrudger insince thunder bay & nova scotia are 36 hours drive time apart, i realize that we aren't all gonna get something within a stone's throw....so i've picked listed 3 different campgrounds (area's) - please vote & whichever gets the most votes will be the one i go with - as they are all within 16 hours of me (and yes it's all about me!.
#1: http://www.lafontaine-ent.on.ca/ - this is in the georgian bay, ontario area (i saw your batchawana bay idea calamity - but the area is the same - we can pick the campground next if this is selected).
#2: http://ontarioparks.com/english/slee.html (thunder bay, ontario area) .

I don't know that it makes a huge difference to me because I will be flying. I lean towards ThunderBay only because it is closer to home and I might make a longer trip of it and stop to see my children in the states south of there..

More KH dreams.
by starfish422 ini keep dreaming about being at the kh.
last night i dreamt i was there and two "worldly" people came in to do some shady business transaction with each other.
they were looking for a third person whom they were supposed to meet there, and wouldn't leave until this person showed up.

Does anyone have a WT/AWAKE cover pertaining to the Occult?
by DebraDoll inplease help!
i have a huge power-point presentation due by friday, and need some depiction from the wtbts concerning the "dangers" of the occult or spiritism.
it deals with the tremendous variations of our world and how "evil" is defined and relative to each individual (ex; the i-ching is vital to confucianism, but feared by jw's, the crusades sought to "save" everyone by forcing conversion to catholicism, but tortured and blinded non believers with agonizing hot iron rods, etc.....)

If I'm not mistaken (wouldn't be the first time) I saw on here once a picture of all the spirit things they were afraid of. It struck me as strange that they would put a oueji (sp) board on a picture they would carry around.
that was the one I had in my mind.. I'm sorry I coulnd't find it DebraDoll.

Getting drunk a sin?
by Coop Man ini have a pretty interesting perspective on this.....especially since i once had all of my privledges removed because i had admitted to an elder that i was hungover..... the scriptures state that drunkards will not inherit gods' kingdom, nor will gluttons.... gluttony is the practice of over-eating, much the same is being a drunkard is one who is continuously drunk.
so, in my feeble mind, getting drunk "once-in-a-while" is not a sin, just the same as overeating at mcdonalds or at grandma's house is not a sin.. am i incorrect in my reasoning?.
thanks to all participants.

Appealing a Disfellowshipping
by Nosferatu inhave any of you ever had a successful appeal to a disfellowshipping?
-
Sassy
simplesally.. IF you had wanted back in.. you SHOULD have had grounds for appeal.. what happened to you was so wrong..
Simon, I can't believe they could do that... I can't believe you didn't have grounds or were given an opportunity to be at the CM.
I figure that I will get that soon.. I won't take calls from the elders if they do call or stop by.. so they will end up having to write a letter to me telling me that I have to go to a meeting at a specific time or I'll be dfd.. They did that to my ex. He wrote them some letter.. not sure what it said but an elder later told me it tied their hands. He didn't DA himself, but legally they couldn't DF him either without talking to him..
I have to admit I'd love to know what he wrote. Of course confidentially I wasn't even supposed to know that much.

Mystic River
by Euphemism insaw it tonight.
seemed a bit hammy at times, but overall i thought it was very good.
when tom guiry's foot came down on the child's face, i was expecting the camera to cut away, and i was shocked when it didn't; half the theater gasped.
-
Sassy
I started a 'Mystic River' Thread the same day the movie opened.
don't feel bad.. the same happened to me with the Matrix Revolution.. I saw it in an early screening a few days before the public release and someone else started one on the day it opened....
Did anyone see Gothika yet?
oh... I saw 21 Grams with Sean Penn.. dark sort of depressing movie.. and choppy as far as real time and showing clips here and there.. I was ready to walk out after 5 minutes... (I have never done that).. the only part I liked about the movie was when I turned to look at my bf and he whispered he loved me.. (in other words... I wouldn't recommend the movie)

I want to ask her out...
by DanTheMan inthere's a girl in my math class at community college who...omg she is such a hottie.
a babe-alicious babe.. i am very inexperienced in these matters, i guess you could say i'm relationship challenged.. how do i approach her?
she seems to struggle a bit with the material we're covering in class, and it comes pretty easy to me.

don't be scared if she likes football.. it really is ok for a girl to like it.. my bf and I love every Sunday watching the game, having a few beers.. next year he is helping me with getting into fantasy football too..
and most women don't hate men.. they are just as afraid of rejection as men are. Just got for it..
