  i have always wondered why witnesses are not "allowed" to have facial hair.

  when i asked a local elder just a few weeks ago (he had no idea i was inactive, just happened to bump into him while my parents were visiting from out of town), his explanation was that "in some countries, it is totally acceptable to have beards, goatees etc...., but in the u.s. of a., facial hair is a sign of rebellion.

  so, the local or territorial opinions on beards is what drives the local congregations policies.

  is it only a coincidence but after the visit by jws last sunday, i have a terrible cold.. is door 2 door work spreading germs?

  Actually I have found that for a cold, a bottle of whiskey and Orange Juice seem to be a cure.. if nothing else you might forget for a moment you are sick!

  i am now much much happier....i spent 13 years in that org and was treated like a leper most of the time, i spent 14 years single and then married a brother i met on the net in another country...usa actually then what a freaken nightmare that was...he ignored me and i might as well have married a stone statue....and we wouldnt have known what to do with a woman even if 100 real men showed him.. i walked away from that mess and now after having been out for over a year i have developed a relationship with the most wonderful man in the world who isnt a witness and as a matter of fact is an athiest but is one of the most loving caring people i have ever met.... so now in effect im the happiest i have ever been in my life.... how ironic huh??

  and they say there is no life outside the organisation...well i say crap there is more real life...and more happiness than living under those horrible conditions where they pay a hell of alot of lip service to the word love ....and absolutely no practical application of it.i now.

  i now like alot of others have realised that a loving god could not possibly destroy so many loving people who are not jw.. its a bunch of crap..i beleive he saves on your individual attitude myself..what is in your heart and the motivation behind what you do.. anyway i just wanted to say that im one of those ones whos soo happy now that i left and i have a much better life now :)

  wow, are you sure we aren't twins?? because my story is so close to yours that someone could read your story and think you are me and report you to my elders for being on an apostate site....

  oh.. except my 'most wonderful man' isn't athiest, he is Muslim.

  I'm glad you found happiness outside the org.. I know it sure was the best thing for me..

  Camping Fest - June 2004 - Canada

  okay guys - planning my summer vacations and i wanna know - can we make this happen or what????.

  decent campgrounds fill up pretty quick, so i'd like to look into some.

  i know nova scotia & ontario are many moons apart, and there was discussion of 2 separate fests.. if there are 2 separate ones, owens sound area, ontario has some pretty cool campgrounds.. who's in???

  I know you could always count on getting sick after an assembly or convention. There are those who attend AT ALL COSTS even if they are sick and then they bring it to you to catch and be sick later with it. Used to really irritate me..

  and by the token, if they think they need to get their hours going, they might go out even though not feeling well too..

  so yes, it can be contageious for those they meet.. if they are coming down with something.

  On your 21st birthday

  i still have a few months to go but i'm planning my day.

  i want to go to vegas and play poker.

  I'm wondering what others would enjoy for their 21st or what some of you have done on your 21st. But the majority of you seem to have had no celebration at all. The society robbed you of it. I honestly didn't consider how many of you had that taken away from you.

  We're just glad that you got out sooner Stacy. We can't change our past. We just appreciate more those things we can have that before we could not.

  Personally I am excited but have no idea what to expect being that this is all so new to me. In less than a month I'll be (gasp) 45. I can't believe the first birthday I ever celebrate will be my 45th birthday. I don't know what to do. With Christmas coming up, I don't know how much money people spend on gifts for friends?? too much or too little can be a bad thing... so I'm anxious..

  but so excited..

  but its ok that this is only the first one. I'll just have to have an extra special time come Dec 8th knowing that the one I love is there with me as I get a year older.

  And you Stacy, enjoy yours.. we're all ok.. so we missed our 21st.. but we have all our tomorrows.

  i was a jw about 15 years ago and have been reading these forums for a while.

  it took a long time to get over the fear of armageddon for sure.

  my 18 year old is still a jw (we live at opposit ends of the world) and i have found your information really useful as i am preparing some kind of telephone 'presentation', as it were, regarding jw beliefs and the difference between jw and the other christian churches and what the message of jesus was.

  Gossip

  did you ever notice when you were a jw, that even though we were told not to gossip, told it could be as serious as a disfellowshiping offense, but everyone still gossiped any way.

  sometimes i think they have their gossip circles much worse than anyone else.

  people in the 'world' have a life.

  I have even had problems with the ONLINE community of JWs. If you were on any of their boards and something happened to someone, pretty soon in chat, email, private messages and SOMETIMES even in posts in private Mod only forums info was said about this one or that. So now we aren't just talking the gossip grapevine bad years ago regarding in your congregation, in neighboring congregations, in the circuit.. but NOW we have 200 other people or more talking if it is juicy enough.

  When I got into trouble two years ago and even though I was only reproved in the congregations, supposed friends were gossiping amongst themselves between emails and then those people emailed and talked to others and before I knew it a ton of people were treating me different. the Gossip is like a plague..
