april wine is playing this friday, and i really wanted to go.
my truck broke down, plus i'm working at my part-time job this friday night.. today, my fiance visited me during lunchhour and brought a surprise for me: 2 tickets to april wine.
she put herself in a bit of a financial goof to get these tickets.
what a shame about the tickets. Bet it would be a decent concert too. Although I only remember one hit song by them personally but I really did like it.
Hope you can find somene to purchase the tickets if you can't go.. and even more so, find a way so she understands and isn't hurt you can't go.

Phantom Stranger, I'm always up to lunch and drinks. Unfortunately you are a little distance from where I am.
As for me, I'm not really sure what impression I have made. Sometimes I write a post and think that was a stupid comment, or did I say too much and offend anyone? As a newbie, I think maybe I should be quieter than I am sometimes. It takes a while to feel like part of the group and know if you are accepted or not.

Well I don't know if I fall for the stories, but I still forgive hoping the same path won't be crossed again. It was how I stayed in an abusive marriage for two many years and how I could forgive friends who really were not there for me when I really needed them. I also go back for more I guess. Trying to work on that. Forgiving only those deserving.

as if that were true. Every point there I can see where they have been no help. There is no support system. Not really.

When I went into therapy, I remember being asked what kind of support system did my religion have? Since most churches have groups and activities to help members, it was assumed that similarly JWs would have something to make it easier to deal with hard issues as they impacted us. I had to say no, we didn't have those. Not to mention I was being stressed at the time from the elders and their dealing with my 'mistakes' and so the therapist was telling me I needed to get another religion that fit better for my life. Of course my immediate brainwashed thought was, I can't see this therapist again, she is trying to turn me away from JWs. Unfortunately I wasn't yet ready to realize how much that was exactly what I needed.

i was just a little kid when the 1975 thing came about, didn't pay much attention to it, after it was over, my parents told me it was just some people being over anxious, and being about 8 at the time i believed it, now when you research you find some amazing articles.
what do you remember being told about 1975 as the year got closer ?
I remember a family in our congregation that sold their business in 1973 or 4. They also sold their house and bought a smaller home at less cost so they could live on the money and pioneer for the last of this 'system' since they expected the end in 75. It sure turned out a mistake for them because it was a good business and so they couldn't get it back when they realized the end didn't come in 75.

What do I expect? To be treated like others want to be treated. Fairly, honestly. Given a chance to believe in me, for those who do not yet know me, before being judged. Well maybe I don't expect that, but I would appreciate it.
Am I forgiving? Yes, to a fault sometimes. In many ways it has been a weakness for me.
i posted here just a little back in january of 2001. i scrambled out of here right quick then since i was still active and fearful of so many things.
i am inactive but not exactly a non jw yet.
i am a conservative person and still believe that some of the teachings of jws are good though i do not agree with everything that's for sure!

Fear of losing those I love controls everything I write here.I wish it were not that way but there is nothing I can do about it.
I totally can relate to your comments as I know do so many others. I have only left JW activities several months ago and was inactive before that. Worrying about losing those I love has been a huge cloud for me, but feeling like I can see for the first time helps a lot. This place has been great therapy for me. When you grow up a JW, you really only know mostly JWs (if you obeyed all the rules) and to suddenly be 'out' it can feel like being a little lost too. When I talked to people/friends I was making about things, they can only relate so much. Mostly they think it is crazy the life I grew up in and lived. It really helps to talk to people who have been there and left because they can understand what we are going through. There are some really great people here on this board.
