Their friendship might have seemed at times like it was deep but in the end it wasn't. It was conditional... Conditional on your being a JW. If you failed that, then you asked for any shunning or repurcussions. That isn't my definition of friendship. So there is no comparison.

Should "Merry Christmas" Be Replaced With "Happy Holidays"?
by Kenneson init seems that some think that "happy holidays" is more politically correct than "merry christmas.
" they take offense to the word christ in christmas and want to replace it.
personally, i think we should keep the words.

When we bought Christmas ornaments and decorations, Dave said "no angels, no Jesus".
Yeah.. I didn't put anything too religous oriented on my tree either. I bought snowfakes, snowmen, etc.
I guess I also am calling this time of year Holidays, because my bf who is Muslim actually makes a bigger deal out of the New Year. We will really exchange gifts more on New Years than on Christmas..although I did insist on a gift for him and it is under the tree... I told him think of it as a winter present.. (since he doesn't celebrate Christmas)

well it doesn't make sense that one thing is wrong, and also another (according to the rules) and yet handled differently..
I am pretty sure my mother is more upset about my sister celebrating Christmas all these years than the fact she also has lived with a man. The reason I think is that the man is something workable, if she can find a way to witness to him, then perhaps she can bring him in to the 'truth' and thereby her daughter too.. Where as Christmas is to her an out and out Christendom activitity.
When I told her I was leaving the JWs I also admitted that a man was in my life who was not a JW. I had actually left the JW activities months before, however, I put off telling her until he moved in with me. Then I worried he might answer the phone one day and so I thought time to let her know all of it.. so I did.. but all she heard was "man I am dating" and wanting to know if I am telling him about being a JW. I told her yes he knows my background, he has to .... to understand me.. but all the while I see her mind churning.. Convert Convert Convert.. we can still save her.. all we have to do is convert him...
so that is why I think they overlook somethings more than others.. but that's just my opinion..

My story
by ChimChim ini was never baptised because i was to young, i was in it until i was 5 years old.
but it ruined my life and still is because my dad, nanny, grandfather, my step nanny, my aunt and uncle...all on my dads side of the family are still in it, so i get lectured alot about things that have to do with the "truth" or i hear him talking about and all i think it, "what a bunch of garbage.
he never really yells at me, i don't think he can because he barely ever see's me, i try to avoid going there as much as possible.

We have a need to be loved by our parents. When we don't feel that love, it eats away at us. I'm 45 yrs old and I still need my dad's love and yet feel rejected by him. I have done so many things in my life to try and please my dad and find acceptance in his eyes and yet I still don't get it. My boyfriend asked me why I still wear my highschool class ring. I told him because it was a gift from my dad. Then I added that he really didn't want to buy it. I was whining that I really wanted it when he said we couldn't afford it and he got mad and threw the money on the table and left the house. So sadly it really wasn't a gift, but it was his money (his drinking money) that paid for it. It is the closest thing I have to a gift from him. I know this doesn't change our situation, but I just wanted you to know that others too need love and to feel wanted, but unfortunately we don't all get it. Sometimes it helps just to know that others understand.

On to the next stage of being shunned
by CruithneLaLuna inif anyone can be said to have "asked for it" by their behavior, i suppose it would be me.
not only did i turn my back on the organization and walk away, but i got involved with "false religion," and wrose yet with neo-paganism and the occult.
(oooh, creepy!

Its ironic that I am in the same situation only for the opposite reasons. Because I chose to be firm about setting a good example and staying a JW when getting divorced, my children discontinued having anything to do with me. But I was told I was doing the right thing and thereby lost them. Now that I am out, there is still much damage and scars from our broken relationship for so many years. There is nothing more painful than losing our children.

Troll dolls and Smurfs - oh my!
by Jim_TX inhow many here have in their possession troll dolls or smurf dolls?.
i am not sure about the rest of the world, but here in the states - these were considered 'demonistic' (oooohhhh!
), and were pretty much forbidden in the toyboxes of children.. since i have left, i have acquired a few for myself - one sits on the refrigerator - with a magnet - another on a shelf around here ... somewhere (he seems to walk around on his own *grin*).. sooooo... how about you?.

I personally sent out cards that did not have the word Christmas but instead referred to the Holidays... and I wrote a note in each and followed it up with Happy Holidays...
but it has more to do with the fact I know half the stuff about Jesus regarding Christmas isn't accurate, so I am not celebrating it persay as being about Jesus birth...
