I think most men who even hate the Cowboys, appreciate their Cheerleaders.

Older ones here, what do you remember being told about 1975 ???
by run dont walk in.
i was just a little kid when the 1975 thing came about, didn't pay much attention to it, after it was over, my parents told me it was just some people being over anxious, and being about 8 at the time i believed it, now when you research you find some amazing articles.
what do you remember being told about 1975 as the year got closer ?

things that make you go AGGGGGGGGGH!!!!!!!!!!
by lurk inkingdom melodies did it for me everytime.. i tired so hard not to have uncharitable thoughts about the ppl who wrote the tunes and words to the kingdom melodies.
there were about 2 that i could stomach.. the rest were so totally uninspiring and mechanical.. .i can say that apart from maybe 2 i didnt get any up lifting joy from them.. elders complained that ppl wern't learning the tunes and singing properly.they got realy irritated over it .but i really really hate the dam songs .
eveyone sounded totally joyless

I was upset when they changed the melody on one of the old song from the "pinkish/fuscia" colored small song book. I forget the name. Gods Own Book a Treasure or something like that. I remember it started: There was a book that by its many pages, bring peace and joy and hope to human kind.....
The old melody was beautiful but they changed it completely and sped it up. I hated the new melody.
I always liked the old songs better than the new ones. I haven't thought about the songs since I left. I used to actually enjoy singing some of them. I never was one to play them at home as background music though.

Vultures are Circling
by dobby inwell in the last three weeks i have had three run-ins with local jw's.
it is interesting because when i moved to this area 2 and a half years ago i only attended a handful of meetings before becoming inactive and no one has come by to talk to us in at least two years.. the first meeting was a visit by a brother stopping at my front door out in service on a sat.
morning.

Thats why moving was a priority for me. To be somewhere new that no one knows me, knows I ever was a witness. You could even have a neighbor who is a witness and they wont' shun you because they don't know any more than you are a neighbor, to them a worldly neighbor.
I hope you don't get hassled too much Dobby. You can vent with us all you want. We understand.

what defines your life now?
by franklin J inas a jehovahs witness, our lives were clearly "defined".
for those of us who are no longer in the "truth", what "drives" your life now?.
for me, it is my kids ( 12, 9, 4--busy--busy--busy) ; my wife; my career; i live by my own personal value system ( tried, tested and working).. the absence of the superimposed restrictive grid of the jw lifestyle has allowed my life to blossom.

My priorities define my life now.
· My boyfriend
· My children
· His children
· and time for me.
not specifically in that order.

THEY'VE DONE IT!!!! The WBTS set a new date!
by dmouse inthe latest watchtower, dec 15th 2003, is an out and out attack on the rank and file for dropping into a drowsy state spiritually.
ok, so armageddon didn't come before the generation of 1914 grew old and died.
but does that mean that the big a isn't near?

I don't think they will ever actually set a date again. Of course I think they claim they never did in print before?? but that it was speculation in the congregations?? but even if they did, they wouldn't be that stupid. They give you that information and then let you figure it out on your own. That way if you put a date in YOUR mind, it is you saying a date, not them.
I am thinking if they do lead to a speculation of dates again amongst the members unofficially, my mom will be happy. She has been acting like there is only 6 mo to a year left and all upset I picked now to leave. Now she would think she had more time for me to come back.

LyinEyes, I am so sorry that you have had all this to go through. It angers me to read, and unfortunately does not surprise me, that you received no support, nor did your mother from the congregation. How sad. I can't imagine the emotions you speak of in dealing with them under the circumstances. I'm glad this place has been able to give you support.
Um, sns? I just want to say the complete OPPOSITE of what that #### said to you. Under no circumstances is suicide an option for you, understand? Okay, then.
Thanks czarofmischief. I read you loud and clear. Don't worry. Even though when I read those words in the letter from my 'so called friend" my first thought was, well it is a good thing I am not suicidal right now or that letter probably would have pushed me over the edge, thankfully I have no plans at all to take my life. For the first time in my life I am living it without guilt from all the things I fall short of (i.e., meeting attendence, bible study, service, too short skirts, too much to drink now and then, etc etc). Right now I have no guilt but live each day appreciating it as a gift with so many good things in it. I really have never been so happy in all my life. Inspite of the fact I am angry about having been so blind about JW org and the people I just lost due to leaving it.

it was not only that they are not qualified to help (which I soooo agree with ESTEE on), but it was for me, the pressure that I was expecting from them that actually lead to my suicide attempt. So ironic now, since I had really not done that much to be bad or disciplined for YET when I attempted it, but it was the pressure of being questioned and condemned and feeling unworthy by them that was too much for me to bare.
