Is it me or does Stephen Lett come across......

i get the feelings that stephen lett tries to come across as mr. rogers but there are times it oozes through that he is a lot more dominant and controlling then he lets on.

i was driving through the high street in highbrooms, royal tunbridge wells, uk yesterday.. in amongst the shop fronts was something ive never seen before.

a large shop front with big glass windows,posters in the windows saying "start your free bible study today" (or something along those lines.

where the shop name would be there was a large jw.org logo and a blue banner.

They are Still preaching against careers!

i saw on another forum a post somebody made about the melbourne assembly.

it seems the religion is still knocking full time jobs/careers and saving for retirement.. you would think at this point in time - after thousands of bethelites were sent home; many thousands of rank & file jws are at or near retirement age with no preparation - that the religion would change its tune, but no.

they are still stubbornly sticking to their guns on this issue.. i’m sorry for any young jws who listen to this.. i’m just glad i never followed their advice and certainly would not want to be in any congregation surrounded by these desperate people!.

You would think at this point in time - after thousands of bethelites were sent home; many thousands of rank & file JWs are at or near retirement age with No preparation - that the religion would change its tune - you're right, any reasonable person would think that the religion would change its tune.

They are still stubbornly sticking to their guns on this issue - we're dealing with a religion that thinks all its members - including children - should refuse blood transfusions in life-threatening situations. Remember, too, that this religion's official policy is not to report (or encourage parents to report) allegations of child abuse unless the state explicitly requires it.

JWs aren't reasonable people, that much is clear.

Hopefully WT stubbornness will backfire on the organisation.

What Do You Think About Banning Plastic Bags?

we need to save the planet so we have to stop using plastic bags!

in massachusetts, the new law will be going into effect soon.

if you go food shopping, you only cat get paper bags.. what is your opinion of the state banning plastic bags?

Plastic pollution in the sea is a serious issue so, yeah, I'd like our use of plastic bags to become less.

The problem doesn't lie with the consumer. Supermarkets give us/used to give us free plastic bags.

When we're talking about law, I hope it's not gonna target ordinary people. It's up to supermarkets to provide us with sensibly-priced, environmentally-friendly, bags-for-life.

Here's the thing: JW conventions will go ahead whether ex-JWs protest outside or not.

Obviously, they're not protesting against the actual conventions, they're protesting against the organisation.

If people want to protest outside the conventions, then fine, but I think it's better to criticise the org at other times ... e.g. during street witnessing or cart witnessing, during work when JW employee tries to witness to you, etc.

…(and for the very first time), i thought i'd post a new topic completely non-wt-related... about a subject matter i have a particular affinity for.... ..i'm a major movie geek (most people here already know that), but one of the many things i especially like are what i call "middle-finger victory lines".. they are memorable (and extremely quotable) moments of dialogue, wherein the protagonist says an extremely cool or badass comment to a very deserving defeated opponent.... ...usually (but not always) said when victory has just been literally snatched from the clutches of certain defeat, and serving as a tall, proud, and victorious flipoff to the often (but not always) shocked-at-the-sudden-turn-of-events enemy.. my ten favorites:.

"sheriff brody to the shark......just before firing his last bullet into a scuba tank lodged in the charging shark's open jaws.jaws (1975).

i literally had dozens of suits.

i still have more dress clothes than anyone i know.

i did give some suits and clothing away and to be honest, i still like wearing a nice suit.. brothers and sisters, are all your “ meeting clothes” still in your closet?
