JWs, The WatchTower Society, Child Abuse and Disfellowshipping
by Simon insomething just struck me.. is the wts the only religion that won't kick people out for abusing children, but would kick you out for visiting a website that informs you that the wts won't kick people out for abusing children .... it really shows where their sensibilities lie.
they are more interested in acting as gatekeepers to information, especially information about them, than providing basic levels of protection to the children of their members.. maybe someone with a better turn of phrase can shorten it, it might make a good meme - something short and simple that really makes people think:.
"the wts - tougher on those who read reports of jw child abuse than on jws who conduct child abuse".

Take a Moment and Think About How Awesome You Are
by Simon init's easy to get bogged down with life and think you're not getting ahead or progressing.
but regardless of where we think things may be going, pretty much everyone who's come through this site is an achiever who's done an amazing thing in one way or another even if they may not think about it.. so think about it!.
you got past and over your programming and indoctrination.

I am, indeed, completely awesome.
I'm glad others recognise it - I thought it was just me.

Confession Time - Music You're Embarrassed to Admit Listening To
by Simon inadmit it, we all have things that we reel off when people ask what our favourite music is, just the same as if people ask what our favourite movies are.
we're meant to say "citizen kane" and "casablanca" and not "battleship" or "pacific rim" but we know what we're going to watch if they are ever on tv at the same time (and which ones we've never actually seen).. so how about some confession time?
what do you listen to when no one else is in the house?.

Here's another guilty pleasure ...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wN2tHv8gPm8
It's gay AF but I love the bass/beat. The original video was shot in Heaven, a gay nightclub in London. I always thought the blonde haired barmaid in the vid was gorgeous, the way she shaked her hips to the beat hypnotised me (e.g. @1 min 15 secs).
And I love the little bit in the song starting @3 min 13 secs - I always thought that was great, for some reason.
I also loved the way Holly Johnson (the lead singer) played with the little tiger - that was cute.
I'm not gay, honest!!! XD

Hahahahaha!
Yes, we all have guilty pleasures, in music and film.
Here are two of my guilty pleasures in film: A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 The Dream Master and Rocky IV (both aren't good films but they're fairly entertaining and I have a lot of nostalgia for them - I loved them as a kid growing up in the 80s and 90s).
Here is one of my guilty pleasures in music (one of many) ...

Anyone remember A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 Freddy's Revenge? If you do, you know what I'm talking about XD

1975 and 1981?
by Steel inis it true that in 1975 the watchtower falsely predicted the end of the world and a great number of the membership quit and just a few years later they turned disassociation into disfellowshipping?
.

Wasn't 1981 when Ray Franz left - yes, I think so.
It all happened at the same time. I read about it a few years ago via Randy Watters.
A group of bethelites were dismissed (and disfellowshipped, too) because they were caught discussing the Bible on their own. This group of people questioned the WT dogma of two types of Christians. They thought that all Christians should have a heavenly hope.
Ed Dunlap is another name I remember ...

The WTS predicted Armageddon (the end of this system) would come in 1975.
The WTS also had a scandal in 1980/81 when a number of JWs at Bethel left. They were called apostates due to believing in the heavenly hope.

What is wrong with Hollyweird?
by LoveUniHateExams inso, the trailer for the new batwoman series was released a few days ago.. proof positive that hollywood, cw network and other movie/tv producers live in their own bubble and are continuing to push their sjw agenda.. the trailer itself has unbelievable levels of cringe at times.. batwoman happens to be a woman (if you hadn't already guessed) and an out and proud lesbian.
of course, there's nothing wrong with any of this, it just feels so forced.
within a few seconds of the trailer you get some girl-on girl action, just to hammer home the sexuality thing.

I haven't seen it but here is a review by a youtuber called JLongbone.Yeah, she's pretty hilarious. XD

Hi Smiddy - well done mate.
Here's my email to the ARC that I sent a few years ago, entitled A few thoughts on the Jehovah's Witnesses (Watchtower Society):
Dear Mr Stewart
I've been watching with interest the recent testimony of Spinks and O' Brien before the Australian Royal Commission into the response of the Jehovah's Witnesses organisation (Watchtower Society) to child abuse.
Both yourself and His Honour, Justice McClellen, are doing a great job of dissecting and analysing the response (or lack of it) of the WTS to the recommendations made by the Commission in 2015.
I'm a baptised Witness who has managed a successful fade. I belong to an exJW discussion forum and faders like me are in a minority.
People who don't want to be a JW anymore often experience shunning to some degree. Although I've faded, I myself experienced being shunned by a JW 'sister' whom I knew from a time when I lived in SE England. I greeted her, she refused eye contact and blanked me, saying nothing. Granted, this was mild and I'm lucky I don't have family 'in'. But most people aren't so lucky.
Another thing: you and Justice McClellen asked "why do JWs shun people who disassociate?" ... and answer came there none. You were very close to the truth when you suggested "you shun disassociated people because the bible says so" - JWs shun disassociated people because the JW hierarchy says so. In this instance, unlike cases of disfellowshipping, there are no scriptural references, as far as I'm aware.
There have been talks at the kingdom hall where the JW speaker (usually an elder) has held up a black bible and said "if the Governing Body told me this was red, I'd say it is red!" and nobody in the audience disagreed.
The Watchtower Society has cult-like characteristics. Governments need to monitor and persuade this religion to make changes, the 'big three' being the issues of child abuse, blood, and shunning.
The Australian Royal Commission is working towards this end.
Keep up the good work!
Yours sincerely
LUHE
I also sent a similar email earlier in 2015, using my uni email and received a reply from Angus Stewart's office. I don't have that at hand but I appreciated the reply at the time.
I spelled Justice McClellan's name incorrectly but I'm sure that wasn't too bad. He does have one of those weird, Gaelic names, unfortunately. XD
But he also happens to be an excellent judge and a fine bloke, as you Aussies would say.
It definitely is nice when you receive a reply from these fine people.

Murray makes a good argument that of all the methods used, searches for online porn are probably the most reliable indicator - well, if Murray said that then I disagree with him.
How do we know that those searching for gay porn are actually gay?
They could be bisexual. And bisexual people are not gay.

I also think re the issue of marriage being destabilised ...
There was a time when minorities didn't have rights. It was entirely proper and right to correct that.
And some, maybe most, members of these minorities only wanted those rights.
But slipped into the mix was that at least some of these people were/are cultural Marxists.
It was one goal of cultural Marxists to destabilise traditional marriage.
