I think it may be good at this point to make a brief mention of the attitudes and actions of believers in divine creation and those who accept evolution: centuries ago before Darwin, most people believed in divine creation. If anyone dared to speak against this, there would be a good chance that they'd be killed for blasphemy.
In the West today, most people accept evolution, with a minority still believing in divine creation. But the evolutionists haven't burnt anyone at the stake.

Global warming/climate change isn't a big issue for me.
I agree that human activity harms the environment and therefore we should be cleaner and greener.
My issues that I have is similar to what Cofty is exploring on his thread. Environmentalists behave as if they were in a cult. They are intellectually dishonest when it comes to discussing data. They also have a strong anti-capitalist, anti-West bent. How many times do we hear climate change activists lambast India or China for all their polluting factories? Answer: never.
I don't trust scientists, either, because their research is funded by the same governments who want to put more taxes onto us.
We need an open, honest discussion.

why are you taking issue with a young lady wanting to make a statement about something she believes in - because what she says must be questioned and critically analysed. But anyone who does that is immediately labelled a hater because Thunberg is on the autism spectrum. This is wrong.
We must be allowed to question and discuss such statements. This will be a first step in helping us deal with the problem, if there is one.
I've not heard anyone suggesting looking to Greta Thunberg for life direction - well, I have. On FaceBook, I follow a page called JOE. They post Greta Thunberg stuff. She gets lots of below the line comments about how she is an example for everyone. Her views are sometimes challenged, but when this happens people get called 'haters', 'gammons', etc.
Sorry, just because Thunberg is autistic, that doesn't mean she gets to pontificate on serious issues unchallenged.

Everyone knows there is a need for transportation - everyone except those in the environmentalist cult recognises this.
There are people who are willing to use an autistic 16 year old young woman to claim that the world will end in a few years and we shouldn't take foreign holidays, we should walk or cycle rather than use private cars.
It may not be asking for a return to the stone age but these people are asking us to make some kind of regression.
Cofty is right - strong anti-capitalist sentiment and the environmental cause go hand in hand.
The only people who'll make cars cleaner and greener are the engineers who work within the capitalist car manufacturers (BMW, Ford, etc.). Greta Thunberg won't do sh1t, sorry to say.

One problem with the environmental cult is that they want us to not travel by plane or private cars. What they're calling for is REGRESSION. They want us to mostly walk everywhere and not take foreign holidays.
The Swedes have a word for this, flygskam - literally 'flight-shame'. Within this cult, a vulnerable teenager can sail across the Atlantic in a carbon-neutral sailing vessel (although those who'll be sailing it back are flying out to the US!) and lecture everyone on her beliefs. If anyone dares gainsay her, they're called haters because this young girl is autistic. That's how this cult works. It actually doesn't want any questioning or debate (again, where have I heard that before?)
Out in the real world, people don't have this privilege of being allowed on fancy sailboats. They work hard most the year to pay the bills, and want to spent 2 or 3 weeks somewhere sunny. I don't think they care about the plane's carbon emissions as it takes them to Spain or Greece or whatever.
I don't travel abroad and I mostly walk everywhere. But that's because I'm poor. The environmentalist cult wants everyone to be like me.

In addition to Rodney Spinks (in the above video), here's another JW elder at the ARC who's dumber than a box of rocks: Kevin Bowditch.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQ9DqHB5dUA
Notice he has no answer to the question: 'how does the WTS protect children who are outside your organisation from disfellowshipped child abusers'? He just sits there in silence, like the stupid twat he is.

The fact remains that the WTS continues to apply the two witness rule to allegations of child abuse. This is moronic because child abusers make sure there are no witnesses when they abuse children.
Historically, the WTS have tended to put pressure on parents for them not to report to the police.
Also, the WTS have treated the victims APPALLINGLY. See below.

Good OP, Cofty.
I think environmentalists are a bit like a doomsday cult - 'we only have 12 years to save the planet!' ... where have I heard that before?
I also believe the environmentalist cult are taking advantage of and using a 16 year old Swedish girl who is on the autistic spectrum (Greta Thunberg).
I certainly think human activity is harming the environment and we need to be cleaner and greener. I don't know if we are facing a climate crisis. The climate has changed over hundreds of millions of years of Earth's history. An honest, open debate is needed.

If You Could Live In Any Era or Decade What Would It Be?
by minimus ini kind of like the 50’s and early 60’s because of the innocence and “happy days” outlook by that generation.
it seems most people were pretty innocent and real.. would you rather be living in a different era or is this century working for you?

We've lost our way somewhat in the West. I can't work out if it's the need to replace religion with something meaningful. That atheism just isn't doing it for many people. ( I am an atheist). People seem rudderless, without meaningful direction. - very interesting comments.
Douglas Murray was interviewed by the two guys on Triggernometry (a youtube channel) and Murray was asked what things we in the West should talk about but don't. And he brought up this same issue that you've brought up.
Personally, I believe religion to be nonsense but if we recklessly tear down all traces of religion, including culture so that the UK isn't even 'culturally christian', then we'd better make sure we have something decent to replace it.
