russian authorities threatened to close jehovah’s witnesses administrative centre last march, when they issued a formal warning to the congregation that the “religious association will be subject to liquidation” if it failed to eliminate within two months the violations identified by the government as “extremist”.
Does anyone at headquarters think that millions of letters are going to
move the Russian political/judicial machine in their favour? I think not,
I see this campaign as a way to solidify themselves in an immediate
"urgent" cause and remind everyone that they are fufilling prophesy by
being persecuted,
The question as I see it is: Are they really being persecuted "for
righteousness sake" or ironically, for being the persecuters of others,

there was a grassy area that needed mowing to put a collapsible baptismal pool on i think.

This was to intimidate the man who had called in a threat on Howe's life,
Now my (silent) question as a teenager was: How were a bunch of
unarmed men (and boys) supposed to intimidate a man with a high
powered weapon?

i live in the u.k, was born in, fell away as an unbaptised publisher, got baptised in my 30s for reasons i'm retrospectively unsure of, and lost my faith about five years ago around the time of the original a.r.c.
now, being unable to leave is making me physically, emotionally and mentally ill.. i have been visiting this forum for a couple of years and wanted to post my first message to see if anyone has attended, heard or watched the zone visit broadcast thing happening this month?
The rationalist in me sees the following:
Bible prophecy/interpretation is at best a hit or miss proposition
It might be illustrated by attempts to predict a meteor strike
If those who predict them are chronically wrong does it mean that they'll
never be right?

But I'm not going to live my life by either
As to those who will be supposedly resurrected
I wouldn't worry
As I recall the teaching
You will be wiped from everyone's memory
I think that research will help settle your concerns

i am interested in finding out on a small scale the extent of which shunning has impacted on you personally.. my own experience is that when i faded about 12 years ago.
the woman whose house the book study was held at (and who was virtually a neighbour) walked right past me in my own street.
i remember it so well.
two ironys here... first of all the title "keep in expectation as jehovahs day draws near" - (this talk is from 2006!!
) i suppose 11 years isnt near enough.
second is that geoffrey jackson, of all people, is giving a talk that goes on and on about liars and how jehovah never lies.

that ConventionsTM were the single biggest source of the Society's
income

@paladin1 I know from past years that the reason usually has to do with
the logistics of stadium rental at a deemed reasonable rate
Coupled with hotels/motels that will cooperate with Watch Tower

straight from the off, i will say that i'm 100% atheist.
i have no faith.
however, it occurred to me while thinking back over my involvement with the jw religion and especially when i take into account personal and family situations where people have made life altering choices due to being jw's, just how crazy it really is.

for if/when you get caught then exercise heartfelt repentanceTM, the
pressure of the situation etc,
Personally I would just be out of there and find new friends outside of the
cult
