just finished reading "who wrote the bible" ( richard e friedman) ?

made for a fascinating read.

the machinations of the various factions of levites and their efforts at centralizing the jewish religion has been adroitly duplicated by the gb.

I have very mixed feeling on this book. I like Prof. Frredman for his simplistic approach to the texts yet it is that same approach that in the end made me reject alot of his work...Nevertheless he does have one thing very accurate. The Hebrew langauge. I have his book.. "Hidden book in the Bible" for refereance and because it is a superior translation.

His theories assume that David-Solomon empire existed... Archeology says No so his theories die.. but as for the texts divisions of the Torah and the langauge he is a great schoolar.

But the text disagrees. "Negab towards the south..."

At this moment I want to give a finger to the fundementalists that take this as histry and explain some things

1. The Negab is NOT south of either St. Catherines or Jabel-ElLawes...Mt. Sinai...

2. The expression south towards...the Negab.. is saying this is a southern loacation in Jerusalem likely.

When?

Ezra claims that the foundations were built but not finished for many years.. what would these people do? Worship at a tent? With the south toward the Negab? Yeah likely.

The idea of P writing (Priestly) is as old theory tha has yet to be rejected BUT when? Part of it likely dates in Hellenistic times BUT.... I think some of it like this tabenacle was written in the 6th or likely 5th century.

was it a steady road of doubts or it was reading one book or one major event that made you realize the bible was not what it's claimed to be?.

For me it was a book "How to Read the Bible
by James Kugel... his showing the Epic of Gilgemesh was word per word part of Genesis 8.

Once that hit me I started looking to see if there was any solid evidence of evolution and found ERVs... indisputable.... Chromosome 2... can't be argued. Done.

I've 'listened' to it 6 times on audio but 5 times was the KJV. (I get bored at work) The NWT while having pleasent readers has horrible grammer... 'he proceeded to say'......'and God said Let light come to be...'

As for actually reading. 1 time in the NWT for bible readings over 5 years. Once in the KJV and once in the WEB for my project.

The KJV is useful for english idioms we often use that come from the bible.
