Interesting chart comparison - seems to correspond to the time period where money has become more and more of a pressing issue for WT leadership.
Over the same seven year time period JW's have seen a
- 50% INCREASE in reporting a college degree
"raised in the truth" during the 50s, 60s,and 70s i repeatedly read and heard from the platform how reading the magazines weekly "was the equivalent of a college education" and how many had turned their family economic situation around by being "trustworthy" and giving up expensive bad habits most "worldly people" had.
sounded good.. what is the reality?
how does avoiding higher education, and then spending up to 20 hours a week getting ready for, commuting, and then participating in meetings and field service affect family finances?.

I believe the data they used is from 2014, which is the same as I've used here.....
What's interesting is to compare, not just the religions with each other, but the religions with themselves over time, say seven years?
Over a seven year period JW's have seen a
15% INCREASE in the lowest income bracket
55% DECREASE in the highest income bracket
Remember money is worth less in 2014 than 2007 - https://www.measuringworth.com
A wage of $30,000.00 from 2007, would need to be $34,100.00 in 2014 (nominal GDP per capita)
A wage of $100,000.00 from 2014, would be $88,100.00 in 2007 (nominal GDP per capita)
in their sick and twisted bubble that they live in, the jehovahs witnesses clearly have no idea about the logistical nightmare of disposing of 7.5 billion corpses.. when i heard an elder once say that it will be a joy to clear away the wicked from the earth, he actually had a smile on his face.. can they even begin to imagine what 7.5 billion dead men, women, children & babies looks like?.

The Golden Age 19 December 1923, page 164
The mosquito has a bad record. He it is that carries the germs of malaria, yellow fever, dengue or break-bone fever, and filariasis
The Golden Age was an interesting magazine - and provided a constrast to the Watchtower magazine.
The Golden Age published a huge amount of what we would call 'user-submitted' articles - which included the weird and wonderful, and sometimes even, when compared to what we know nowadays, dangerous, including 'quack medicine'. The magazine editors obviously choose what to print, but it was an interesting magazine that reflected the times it was printed in - and the desires and opinions of both the writers and readers looking for a 'golden age.' - it provided people with a conduit to expound their ideas to a wider audience (remember they had no internet back then haha).
rebel8's interesting quote, from the 18 March 1931 edition of The Golden Age - "Do you know the germ theory has never been proven? And it cannot be proven, either" - well, I would move that, more truthfully, the quote should be attributed to 'Germs, the Modern Superstition' by Dr. E. H. Dresden (Iowa) writing in The Golden Age 18 March 1931.
There is no denying that the WT printed it (full page scans below to prove it was printed) - and actually the reference to it is in the WT's 1930-1985 Index which is on the WT CD Library, under the heading 'Germs / Disease' - take a look!
What's interesting is that, if you do look up the Index 1930-1985 - there is another reference provided, in the same year, seven months later - which rebel8 hasn't mentioned, namely 'g31 10/14 23-26' - and which highlights the nature of The Golden Age magazine regarding user submissions...

Germane Questions by Roy D. Goodrich (Florida)
The article "Germs, the Modern Superstition", by Dr. E. H. Dresden, in a recent issue of your esteemed journal, The Golden Age, has been read with much interest. There is a golden thread of truth that runs throughout this article, and no doubt the destruction of fanciful and superstitious fears among the people will be for their good, particularly if truth be substituted therefor. If certain serum sellers and inoculation mongers should strenuously object, let the very reasonable hope be expressed that many of them are merely blinded and not dishonest.
Before accepting all of Dr. Dresden's statements on this interesting subject, in their entirety, however, I find myself in need of the answers to some questions which have arisen in my mind, and which, so far as I am aware, have never been answered by Dr. Dresden or his germ-eating colleagues. Perhaps many other readers of The Golden Age, finding themselves in this same predicament, will be glad to consider some of these questions, in connection with the suggestion that perhaps this new and verdant school of doctors, though not superstitious, have much weakened their case by the common errors of exaggeration and the making of unsupported statements.
etc etc

The 'go to' scripture is:
Revelation 19:17, 18
I saw also an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out with a loud voice and said to all the birds that fly in midheaven: “Come here, be gathered together to the great evening meal of God, so that you may eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of military commanders and the flesh of strong men and the flesh of horses and of those seated on them, and the flesh of all, of freemen as well as of slaves and of small ones and great.”
But is that possible?....
That problem was expanded on by the WT in - you guessed it - the 1984 book Survival Into A New Earth as well as the 1 June 1973 Watchtower....
Survival Into A New Earth, page 31, paragraph 31
The Kind of Life That Awaits Survivors
True, as a result of the great destruction, the earth will be strewed with those slain by Jehovah. But no one knows better than God what needs to be done to safeguard the health of the survivors. He tells us that he will invite the birds of heaven and the beasts of the field to his “great evening meal” and that they will have their fill from the fleshy parts of those slain. (Revelation 19:17, 18; Ezekiel 39:17-20) What they do not consume he can dispose of by other means. God’s purpose for the earth as stated in Eden will then move forward to its fulfillment.
Watchtower 1 June 1973, page 346, bottom of first column
A Cleansed Earth
The prophecy of Revelation also describes the destruction of Satan’s earthly forces, giving the invitation to the birds to come to “the great evening meal of God.” (Rev. 19:17) On a previous occasion an avowed enemy of God was devoured by dogs, leaving only a few bones to bury. (2 Ki. 9:30-37) But the animals could never dispose of all those slain at Har–Magedon. Hence, the Almighty God will doubtless use some highly scientific means at his disposal to get rid of the surplus of the decaying bodies in a speedy and sanitary way. We remember that Noah and his seven fellow survivors of the global deluge were not burdened with burying the human victims of that world catastrophe after they came out of the ark and renewed Jehovah’s worship on earth. — Gen. 8:18-22.
Should we recoil in horror at the thought of such mass destruction? If a person is disposed to feel that way, he should ask himself, Did I express this reaction toward World Wars I and II, or did I actively or tacitly support these gory wars, which were not fought for Jehovah’s vindication, and did not result in a cleansed earth wherein righteousness dwells? The thing we must keep in mind is that Jehovah, by this fight, brings the earth back fully under his universal sovereignty and removes wickedness so that it can never again govern humankind. Those destroyed are haters of God.

Hi Sanchy
What did the reprints say in place of these words?
The magazine wasn't reprinted (apart from the Bound Volume produced the following year)
The magazine has never appeared on the CD-ROM WT Library.
Nothing has been changed in the original article, no words have been changed
It's just that getting hold of a magazine printed nearly 50 years ago is not easy.
As a help I uploaded a scan of the first 15 pages of the magazine which included the article at the end.
Hey FadeToBlack!
@darkspilver: but they should embrace the changes as proof of the light getting brighter, right? I realize by 'heritage' they mean our version of it.
haha yeah! Always good to bring up previous doctrine with JWs..a nice rejoiner like..... "whereas we used to believe that...."
how many of you know about this san diego mansion?
i just found out about it recently.
apparently it was built for old testament faithful men to live in upon resurrection in 1925 such as abraham, moses etc.
Hi StephaneLaliberte
This house was build at the start of the great depression that was between 1929 and 1939. So, while the unemployment rate was way up, at 25% in the states in 1933, Rutherford had this house for himself and his friends. And don't forget that they already had the big buildings in NY.
Why was that bad? I understand that it was built by a builder? Who were paid?
Don't forget the principle of the New Deal at that time - by providing temporary employment that people would be paid for it helped keep millions of Americans off the streets and getting some money - even kinda like the Bible example of gleaning.
This was done both by the American Government and by private individuals, perhaps most famously by Rockefeller - as in New York's Rockefeller Center - the project was a 'job creator' for thousands - but everything helped, even very small projects and jobs.
https://dp.la/exhibitions/exhibits/show/new-deal
It does depend where you stand politically, but the principle is - if you've got the money in times of depression, it is better to spend it to pay people to do things so that the money gets circulated in the economic system.
Then some people may be able to pay income tax, which the Government can then use to gainfully employ more people (doing things like 'public services') - it's pure economics

Hi FadeToBlack
If they are so proud of their 'heritage' shouldn't everything ever written by the 'society' now be available either online or dvd?
Yeah, good point, would make it easier - problem of course is the doctrine changes

Here's another WT reference I've found
Yearbook 1943, pages 33 and 34
I've added the pages in chronological order in my previous link here
the brief outline for this item makes reference to the most recent wt on the subject of "reaching out" (august 2016 - pages 20 - 29) if you are a jehovah's witness and thinking about becoming a ministerial servant or elder, then please consider the following information prior to attending the kh for this week’s wt “study” and the week after.
first - if you hope to become an elder, in the uk you will also become a charitable trustee.
you will not be given any training for this part of your role.
Hi Damascus!

Thank you for the link
Oh dear....
Unfortunately the quote seems to only be in the comments section made by the poster 'zeb' which is the same username as the poster in this thread who posted the same quote - but sadly with no reference to where the actual quote comes from. (and you kinda reminded me about something else too )
You also linked to Barbara Anderson's website - and reminded me that I'm still waiting for confirmation regarding a newspaper quote that she has used (and please I'm really really hoping it's not the quote from the UK Sunday newspaper 'The Sunday People' )

sorry, but Damascus kinda reminded me
May 22 Awake! of 1969.

old cd's of the library
The first WT CD Library actually only contained the Awake! going back to 1980 - a couple of years later it was expanded to go back to 1970 - but no further - and that hasn't changed, the current CD goes back to 1970.
Sure you can complain all you want that they've decided not to go back further on the CD (and I wish they would) but you can't complain they've removed something that didn't exist in that CD format in the first place
Yes it is an important quote - which is why I took the time to scan and upload the full article earlier on this thead - here is a new link to all 15 pages, just in case anybody hasn't got it yet

The Compact Disc—What Is It All About?
Watchtower Library CD-ROM: The Watchtower Society has always seen fit to use appropriate technological developments in advancing Kingdom interests. In the past the Society was among the first to use color motion pictures, radio networks, and the portable phonograph in proclaiming the good news. Now, the Watchtower Society has released in English the Watchtower Library - 1993 Edition. We feel sure it will prove to be a marvelous tool for Bible study and research.
This new release is truly a library. It contains the text, in electronic form, of the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures—With References, the annual bound volumes of The Watchtower from 1950 to 1993 and Awake! from 1980 to 1993, the two-volume Bible encyclopedia Insight on the Scriptures, and numerous other books, booklets, brochures, and tracts published by the Watchtower Society since 1970. In addition, it contains an index to all Watchtower publications from 1930 to 1993.
