well, round my way (south of the uk) all the way up to and including the regional conventions this summer, baptism numbers have been extremely low.
but i have just received news of three recent circuit assembly days where the figures seem to be higher.
(all have been across the last three weekends at a uk assembly hall in october).
Hi blondie
Now if that doesn't show how it has dropped into the toilet....and no increase of 25 or 35 counts. 1983 87,732 pubs generated 5,154 new people, why did 134,491 pubs only generate 2,286?
Because the WT has passed it's 'honeymoon' period, has entered it's plateau phrase and is likely to be entering it's downward phrase....

I didn't start this thread using single digit figures
And I agree with regards to figures, after all there's lies, damned lies, and statistics
BTW, if you don't all ready know about it, you might be interested in the British Religion In Numbers website from Bristol University - http://www.brin.ac.uk

Sorry, I was thinking while typing, rather then presenting an 'idea' as complete.
Firstly I think there is always going to be a natural plateau with anything - a 'maximum reach' - religion included. What would be interesting would be when that plateau starts to fall.
(In product marketing, with a saturdated market where you've plateaued on you maximum market reach you look to use the brand name to expand the product range, sometimes into quite seemingly unrelated areas - actually an argument could be made for JW Broadcasting being that expanision - anyway, back to the main point)
While I thought initially that the maturity of the religion in those countries it has been active in the longest will have reached a plateau, you would still expect ongoing growth in those countries it hasn't been active in for as long.
But as my global increase figures, that doesn't really seem to be the case.
Excluding the anomalies of very low publisher numbers and high ratio countries... It seems interesting there's really only three significant countries reporting similiar increases to Britain back in the 1980's, namely
Angola 1:210, 111,123 publishers, 8% increase
Philippines 1:499, 199,551 publishers, 5% increase
Russia 1:832, 172,977 publishers, 5% increase
hemosep – blood recycling system.
a blood recycling system, the hemosep cell savage, was developped at brightwake ltd. it is praised as costsaving and lifesaving device for jw who undertake major surgery.
one of the company's trading arms advancis surgical markets the device.
Hi Crazyguy
recovered blood because of this scripture? Is this not more hypocrisy?
The principle for JW's is keeping the blood in effective continuous circulation.
Believe it's a conscience matter and I think most JW's accept it, at least nowadays.
Was told once by a publisher that they didn't want to accept cell salvage, I said - so you would not accept dialysis? - they said yes they would, to which I said it's basically the same principle - they changed their mind so would accept cell salvage.
I understood that the basic/standard cell salvage thingy is used as 'standard' practiise nowadays on everybody due to both cost saving and reducing risks in transfusing someone else's blood into you.

Hi Finkelstein!
The realization that the WTS has been a commercialized corrupt fraud of a religoius publishing house is spreading around the world, ironically centralized in the very country where it was founded, the US
No, I think as a 'mature' religion, having operated in Britain for a good 100 years, it's reached it's natural plateau.
For those interested, if Britain had continued on a 5% increase for the 30 years since 1985 - the JW's would have 420,000 publishers in Britain alone by now (ie 66% more than they currently claim)
On the other hand, it might not be due to the plateau effect, because....
Globally in the 1985 Yearbook, the WT was reporting average publishers of 2,680,297 with a 7.1% annual increase - if that increase had continued the WT would now be reporting 20,982,974 publishers worldwide rather than the 7,987,279 (which interestingly is pretty close to that 66% figure again hmmm)
(That's compound annual interest of 5% on 97,370 over 30 years - http://www.thecalculatorsite.com/finance/calculators/compoundinterestcalculator.php#form2 ditto for global figures)

Quick figures from Britain:
Yearbook - |
Increase - |
Average Publishers - |
Baptized |
1983 |
5% |
87,732 |
5,154 |
1984 |
6% |
92,616 |
5,166 |
1985 |
5% |
97,370 |
5,280 |
2016 |
0% |
134,491 |
2,286 |
After all if 100 got baptised in one circuit in one year, but 100 publishers left the org, the figure would be 0% increase.

Hi stillin!
I also wonder what the final closure was on the couple...or if it's even over yet.
The original story appears to be dated 21 June 2012 in Greenville County, South Carolina, and the newspaper reports gave a name.
You could, for example, check the Greenville County Court Records.

You could also, if you wanted, perhaps check the South Carolina Department of Corrections.

Seems you can probably fill in some details thanks to 'Brenda' over at the thread that appears here
No idea how accurate 'she' is, but a few of the key words are 'divorced/separated', 'intoxicated', 'restraining order' which perhaps gives some flavor to this sad incident.
