which is a better attitude: I can't respect it, but I understand it or I cant understand it , but I will respect it?
by MissFit inso is it possible to understand a reason and not respect it?
shouldn't understanding lead to a respect of the reasons and actions?.
or can you respect the reasons and actions without understanding them?.

Phizzy: thank you for that clarification between making a judgement and being judgemental.
You said : "that is the problem with the JW mindset, they are right, there is no room for an alternative opinion to be as valid as theirs..it is their way or it is wrong."
I think many other people tend to have that mindset as well.
You can see it in some's attitude toward same sex marriage , evolution, politics.

Legacy: I like that. It does not sound as judgemental.
I think I was reacting to the judgmental attitude without realising it.
I wanted my mom to concentrate on the positive aspects concerning my niece.
She was so focused on the not being married part that she completely overlooked the long term commitment my niece sharedc with her partner.

Suggestion: Don't Accept Everyone's Opinion Here
by minimus ineveryone has an opinion on things.
oftentimes, we ask for help or want the view of the board in a matter.
but just remember, the comments are simply personal views.

Minimus: great advice.
I think it is important to remember that most of us are strangers to another.
We only know what the posters choose to tell us about themselves. And even that is just scratching the surface.
People respond based on their biases and experiences and their perceptions based on what they think they know based on the info. you give them.

Inactive ones are bloodguilty?
by dissonance_resolved ini've been thinking about brother morris' statement at the zone meeting this past weekend that inactive ones are bloodguilty.
bloodguilt is defined as "guilty of murder or manslaughter.
" murder is #1 on the list of disfellowshipping offenses- all they would have to do is change the wording from "murder" to "bloodguilt" and suddenly there you have grounds to disfellowship anyone who's inactive.

I hope UBMs and faded spouses, anyone with family still in, or are being shunned, really had a chance to hear or read the transcript of that talk.
That in a nutshell us what you are dealing with.
imagine being told stuff like that all of your life?
Imagine the guilt they feel when they look at you or your children. They are looking at your blood on their hands.
They have to do more, be more, because maybe if they cant get you in, they will not be worthy enough to make it to paradise.
Putting in that 15 min. Of informal witnessing a month can mean the difference between life or death!
Many feel bitter because they think their family has choosen the org. Over them.
Not true. They are fighting for your lives and their salvation.
Think of that strong imagery he invoked.
Standing before God with your blood and your children's blood dripping from their hands because they didnt do enough.

Millie: you are echoing my sentiments. I just didnt know how to put it.
I agree with Millie but Coded logic has a point. Some decisions do not seem worthy of respect. Is that because we are being judgmental and viewing them from our bias?
