The Story of Minimus
by minimus inwhen i was a teen, i aspired to be an elder.
from my pre-teens until i was 18, i was in every circuit assembly and district convention----having either ministry school talks or parts or experiences.
at 20, i conducted a bookstudy in the afternoon, also regular pioneered, was the theocratic ministry school overseer in the 2nd school and regularly taught the main school.

So reading Ray Franz books made made the final moment for leaving?
I personally didn't need to read any of his books to know that..... Dateline, May 2002...last ten minutes...seeing the vicitms of the JW pedophiles started it for me. And then Stone Phillips saying: there are at least 20,000 cases not turned into the authorities......I knew then I had been duped for 35 years....
No book from anybody at Bethel could top it.
Not saying that years later I didn't read his 2 books, they did say a WHOLE lot more about the JW ethics........but I left it without ever reading it. Enough hypocrisy before it!

What Actually Made You Leave The "Truth"?
by minimus infor me it was a combination of things over a long period of time.
being raised as a witness, you do things by rote.
but when you see sooooooooo many watchtower inconsistencies, mistreatment of the "brothers", elder abuse, and simple lack of love, it begins to make you start seriously thinking.

wow...Min...you posted in red.
You do feel what I feel......about the org......
and to think I was in it from the age of 5 till 45..........
that made me who I am and an identifier of hypocrisy though........

After reading many topics.. I'm confused. Is this a JW forum or an ANTI-JW?
by MichaelM ini'm studying with a jehovah's witness and it makes quite a bit of sense but i've been reading many topics on here and it seems that i can find every christian denomination and every religion except jehovahs witnesses.
do any jw's actually browse here?
maybe i'm just getting unlucky and picking the wrong topics where everyones discussing about how they used to be jw's.

Welcome Michael
I was raised into the JW religion, and bought it hook, line, and sinker. I started feeling uncomfortable when I had to quit Band (I played flute and piccolo, an aspiring musician) to be baptized. (you couldn't play any religious, or political songs: National Anthem). I was also valedictorian and couldn't go to college as that was "taboo".
Fast forward to May 2002, when I was 45, I saw the last ten minutes of Dateline which exposed the WTBS for their pedophile coverup. As Dr. Phil would say, that was "a defining moment" to me. I realized the hypocrisy of the JW's as they had always put down the Catholic religion for their preist/pedophile problem. The victims that were on Dateline were disfellowshipped for telling their story on TV.
I went in the door to door, one more time. I couldn't in good faith, tell my nieghbors we had a religion that was better then others when they covered up the pedophile issue. There are pedophiles still knocking on doors!
So, please do your research. As you have noticed there are many rules that are not Bible based, but man inforced. Nowhere in the Bible does it say we need to report our monthly field service time. They don't want to know how much money we give them, but they want to know how much time we donate? Rediculous!

Seeing the last 10 minutes of the May 2002 Dateline how the WTBS has covered up their pedophile scandal. I shook my head realizing that was hypocrisy. They were no different then the Catholic Church they spoke about at least 2 times a month with their priest/pedophile problem.
Add to that "defining moment", the severe lack of love. Elders not wanting to know you, just GET your publisher card. How unchristian.

ok...Decki....great story, well written
........I am white and I promise I can cook.........I am not old enough to be your MOM....but I raised a 32 year old step son from the age of 8......he calls me Mom. His real Mom was an alcoholic/druggie.
I have no parents......since the age of 14 and 28......and a JW son who has relinquished contact with me......
He somehow got my step son to quit contacting me too.. I hate that my MOM raised me in this religion with no love.
So........I can be your MOM....................I will adopt you.........and yes I can COOK!!!! lol...really!
