DOES ANYONE STILL NOT CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS???
by chuckyy injust wondering if anyone still does not celebrate xmas since leaving jws.....or like me do you think"to hell with it", and join in the festivities.
if you do celebrate it, do you still have pangs of guilt for celebrating this "pagan" festival???.
chukky.

I identify with OpenFireGlass
Before my mom was baptized we had xmas at one of my relative's house (we as a family had a tree a couple of times at our house). The relative we went to was unloving, so xmas was NEVER a good experience.
Now that we are faded out successfully, we have never officially done the decoratings...last year we exchanged gifts with a dear friend going thru a divorce and we were her family. It was ok, but I think the giving of gifts is much more exciting when it is done on the whim, and no expectation of a gift back.
We don't celebrate cause I have adult jw children and I would be df'd if they say it. It is NOT a risk I am willing to take and especially for a holiday that I see no importance in.
I have worked retail and found many gifts returned: it saddened me to see the wasted effort of the giver!!!

Don't Quite Know What To Make of This
by XJW4EVR ini had my kids last weekend, and they seemed hapy, and content.
i called a couple of times earlier this week as usual, to see how they are doing, and got the answering machine.
no mystery there.

How old will you be....
by Scully inwhen you will have been an exjw for as long as you were a jw?.
i was raised in the jws from before the age of 10, and stopped going to the kh at the age of 31. i was involved with the jws for a total of 23 years.
i will be 54 years old by the time i have spent more of my life as an exjw than i did as a jw..

What Would Make A Jehovah's Witness Decide To Finally "Get Out Of Her"?
by minimus inwhat "thing" could happen to make someone decide to leave the organization for good??
?

I think the final blow can be totally different for each person.
My case: the emotional/spiritual abuse from elders.
Being raised in the truth(tm) you are told you must put up with the abuse to show YOU love Jehovah.
After a years of abuse, you finally say: enough is enough. (The Jehovah I know, wouldn't want me to feel this way) I am valuable and worth more then that kind of treatment and I don't want to bring anybody to the KH to receive the abuse I have received (all in the name of brotherly love though...ugh)

Pedophile Proof
by Sunspot ini know that years ago (i don't actually recall just how many right now) that barb anderson discovered the more than 23,000 cases in the files at bethel and subsequently bravely brought this to the public's attention.. does anyone have any knowledge of how many approximate cases have been reported to the wts headquarters since that original number, or what year that was?.
we see this "23,000" number mentioned down til this day and common sense tells me that there are far more of these instances of child molestation and acts of pedophilia than as first thought back then.
the wts is so gung-ho on having "accurate lnowledge" on things....so in keeping with this idea, what would be a more "accurate" tally of these numbers for conversation today?.

Another visit Another doctor
by purplesofa inso i went to the doctor yesterday for my exit counselling and some other things.. we talked about the religion, this is my first visit with her.
she said there is another good and loving god .....not that cruel one.
and she knew about the shunning that the witnesses do.. so this is the second doc within a weeks time, that seems to have a bit of background knowledge on the witness religion.. i wondered how many witnesses have needed counselling????

When living in my previous area, I consulted my gyn after surgery.
I was having some anxiety problems and mentioned leaving a cult. She said: "which one"?
I told her JW's. She was very supportive and shared how they were all raised Catholic, that her sister became involved and became one and she feared for her niece's well being. She knew quite a bit about the JW religion, doctrine and beliefs.
She showed a lot of empathy for my new stand in my life.
