Hysterically funny! I loved the 'Out of Charmin' and 'You CAN live on minimum wage' gags.

It's a Question From Readers.
"Can a Christian maintain a good conscience if he accepts employment that involves being armed?"
Usual intro - certain forms of employment violating Bible principles should be avoided like those connected with gambling, promoting tobacco, misuse of blood (huh? I thought they relaxed on that one? Doctors?). Other types of work, though not biblically condemned, might violate own conscience or that of others.
This is the key part:
"Engaging in secular work that requires carrying a firearm or another weapon is a personal decision. However, armed employment exposes one to the possibility of becoming bloodguilty if called upon to use one's weapon. Hence, a Christian needs to consider prayerfully whether he is willing to accept the burden of making a snap decision where human life is involved. Carrying a weapon also exposes a person to the danger of injury or death from an attack or reprisal."
Then the article says others might be affected - (paraphrasing) how can one preach about being peaceable with all men if they're at work carrying a weapon? Would owning a handgun and keeping it in the house be a potential danger to family like kids? Would other's be stumbled by your stand on the matter? Would a person be 'free from accusation' if he chose armed employment that would bring him into contact with 'fierce' people 'without love of goodness'? No, because the person would be 'irreprehensible' if he continued to carry a weapon after being counseled not to - therefore, they wouldn't qualify for congo privileges. It finishes with an appeal to trust Jehovah to sustain us, put Kingdom interests first and not to be overly concerned about the necessities of life.
So basically the article seems to be saying that, yes, it's your own decision, but we don't approve and you probably won't get privileges if you do - you'd be better finding another job.

Among the example of persons who need a shepherding call: "A young one who used to have praiseworthy theocratic goals now is sullen, quiet, and when he does speak, it is with worldly speech".
This was followed by the question, "What might be the cause?" Answers from the audience:
"Could be bad association, unwholesome music, school teachers & counselors telling youngster that his parents are out of date for pushing theocratic goals"
Or it could be that he's chafing under the WTS yoke, pressures from his parents, congregation members to squash him into a mold he doesn't want to be in.
"The world uses people up and throws them away when they are done with them. Jehovah's organization is not like that."
How can they get away with comments like this? Propaganda. I also know people - close to me - who have 'poured out their souls' on behalf of God and the congregation. For health reasons they are inactive and don't attend meetings. For the most part, it is like they never existed. It's as rare as a white raven when somebody in their congo thinks to call them up. The elders don't even bother calling before a CO visit anymore. And this year, they had to ask us when the Memorial was!

That is bizarre!
At least my grandmother now appreciates her great-grandchildren - even though my mom went against her advice (and the Rutherford advice) about getting married and having children.

My friends experience at elder school
by Grouper ina friend of mind went to elder school recently and i convoy the following for him: .
the co asked him previously if he could assist with a demonstration showing the superiority of wtbts education to university education.
my friend holds a few masters' degrees and will be starting a phd program soon so the co thought he would be an excellent candidate to demonstrate the superiority of wtbts education, but there was a little problem my friend he said no.

Yes it is a straw man! People will do what it is in their hearts to do. If they're into the sex, drugs and drinking scene, they'll do that whether they are students or pioneers.

Pointed out how to use index (duh!),
Imagine, a bunch of grown men having to be shown how to use an index! No wonder they oppose "higher" education! They haven't yet mastered the third grade!LOL Wait till sir gets to the "Help Others Obey the Bible" part where there was a long-winded, brain-numbing explanation of how to help troglodite unbaptized publishers fill in a report slip.
Good job you're doing here, sir. It's a pity we have to wait until Wednesday for the next installment

The strange part about it is that there will have been about 30 000 baptized during the year (based on last year's stats), yet a minimal increase in average publishers - so low as to be counted as zero percent. Is this evidence of a quickly spinning revolving door?

Elder's School Notes Part 1: Quit being so materialistic, you slackers!
by sir82 inask, and ye shall receive.. i will herewith post my notes from the km06 elders school i recently attended.
i will post this in 6 parts, to give people a chance to read smaller chunks and comment on them.. a couple of introductory notes: i wrote an awful lot of stuff, and will not post everything.
for each talk, i will post 3 sections: (1) general synopsis, (2) personal thoughts & observations, (3) particularly egregious quotations.. the primary speakers, who delivered more than 1/2 of the talks, were a circuit overseer and a guest from brooklyn bethel.. to protect anonymity, we will refer to the sadly inane circuit overseer as brother sico.. and the old-timer lifelong brother from bethel, completely out of touch, as brother bethel-coot.. one more introductory comment: it seems the main points the society wanted to send to elders were:.

I have a friend in the Video Games industry. I shall have to ask him if he has an employee called 'Satan' and exactly what role does he play. Does Satan clock on and sit at a workstation cubicle? I can picture the scene.
You'll find him in the marketing department, since at another school they were told that Satan is an experienced salesman

W.T January 1, 2006
by Diogenes injust reading through the january 1st w.t 2006. the first study article (starting on page 20) "how firm is your trust in god?
" has another dig at higher education.. paragraph 7.
"anyone who does not trust firmly in jehovah might think differently.the majority of humans view material wealth as a major key to security.hence, parents have encouraged their offspring to invest much of their young adulthood in higher education, hoping that it will prepare them for well-paying careers.sadly some christian families have found the cost of such an investment to be very high, as their children have lost spiritual focus and turned to pursuing materialistic goals".
