From September 2004 to July 2005, there has been no increase in the number of publishers reporting for the 2005 service year, which began last September.

    September 2004 - 990,551

    October 2004 - 993,476

    November 2004 - 990,086

    December 2004 - 997,250

    January 2005 - 990,365

    February 2005 - 984,747

    March 2005 - 992,732

    April 2005 - 1,004,310 May 2005 - 991,450 June 2005 - 973,710 July 2005 - 996,368

An average of 991,367 publishers reported from Sep 2004 to July 2005.

Last years average publisher figures for the U.S.A. was 992,809.

There has been a decrease of 1,442 publishers on average.

Despite the "Keep On The Watch" brochure and hardline policies, and District Convention beatings, the publishers in the United States do not seem to be conscious of their spiritual food coming from the bounteous table of Jehovah, as provided by the faithful and discreet slave class. Next month, the Dec KM will have the final results for August 2005, the last month in the service year.

I guess many have realised the truth of the saying "by their fruits you will know them"!

Good to see it, I heard the UK figures are in decline as well.

Long may they continue to do so

First decrease in the US since the late 70's, when the fallout from the 1975 debacle was still being felt.

Wonder what the spin on this one will be in the February WT article discussing the worldwide report?

Imagine what the numbers would look like without the still-huge increases in the foreign language congregations. Did I read somehere that over 200,000 of the JWs in the US are in Spanish language congregations?

Amongst the English-speaking congregations, I'd bet a nicket that the decrease is more like 3 or 4%, instead of the 1% overall decrease.

The decrease may very well reverse itself, as August is the traditional time of year when those long forgotten publishers hand in their time sheets with 3 months worth of figures. We'll see.

There was only one month this year with over 1,000,000 publishers.

Maybe the friends find "more enjoyment during weekends away from Christian responsibilities" than spending time in field service.

With no new light and constant drumbeat of "obey the faithful slave" it's no wonder witnesses are slacking off. They don't see an end to the world, much less the destruction of Babylon the Great.

More seem to be going through the motions of being witnesses, and then coming to sites like these to digest spiritual food.

There's nothing new under the sun, and the Society has failed to find a substitute for the Generation of 1914 teaching which would motivate the friends to think the big A is near.

Everything is the same old same old.

True. August figures always show a pronounced 'spike' when looked at in their 12 month context. Fishy . . .

You've also got to factor in those who are "fake" publishers and hand in time just to keep the elders at bay. So the decrease is actually more than what it seems at first glance.
