It could be in response to the DC talk about contacting and reactivating the 'inactive' or the lost. It could be some 'necessary family business' that circumvents the talmudic instruction on dfed ones. But it could be that he's thought that life is short, that not contacting his own kith and kin for so long is crazily unreasonable. I know that hubby and I contacted our dfed niece a couple of years ago - our consciences had pricked us even when loyal dubs, but we had still shunned her for many years (certain family dynamics had also previously prevented us from following our hearts) and we decided to email her and unreservedly apologize for our treatment of her, which she happily accepted and has gone a long way to heal the rift. So you never know ...

Cross or a Stake - which was it?
by KAYTEE inwe were always lead to believe, when we belonged to the jws, that jesus died on a "stake".
was this really true or did he die on a cross as all other religions appear to believe.
if it was a cross, what on earth did the jws get out of saying otherwise.

What point then are you trying to make as your comments are not relative to the point at hand?
I'm amazed that somebody who claims to have letters after his name fails to see the relevance of Old Soul's point. The stake was also pagan as the Insight book repeatedly brings out. Your argument quoted in OS's post, scholar, is bogus.
The Son of God was executed as a blaspheming seditionist. The ones who carried out the execution were unclean pagans. Everything about his murder was shameful and disgraceful. The vast majority saw him as some kind of low-life. And you are quibbling over the taintedness (or otherwise) of the instrument of execution! Crazy!

Were You Appalled When You First Saw "Life Of Brian"?
by Englishman inthere was so much hoo-hah prior to the films release, that i became ever determined to see it as soon as it hit town!.
the church leaders were up in arms about it, mary whitehouse became almost apoplectic, it was almost the end of civilisation as we knew it!.
well, we duly toddled off to see it.

I guess you've really let dubdom go, when you can enjoy The Life Of Brian.
I enjoyed that movie before I let dubdom go. Perhaps it's a sign that you will let dubdom go if you can appreciate 'Life of Brian'
"Blessed are the cheesemakers".
What's so special about the cheesemakers?
Well, obviously it's not meant to be taken literally; it refers to any manufacturers of dairy products. You have to be different!
[Crowd] Yes, we are all different!Wonderful!

by Gill indoes any one know where the jah-jireh webs sites, the sites that deal with the jw retirement homes have gone?.
i've been interested in them for a while, (with my age and that) but they've disappeared from the web!.
does anyone know why they might have come of, been taken off, disappeared from the net.. the only reference i can find to them is a list of retirement homes with a religious bent.. thanks all!.

William (Bill) Bull - his wife's story was in an Awake in the 1980s, to do with her going on a hemodialysis machine.

would dubs ever go into field service if there was no record-keeping?
by zagor indo you think that any dub would ever go into field service if they didnt have to record hours of service?
i dont believe it at all.
in fact, you could see that everything they do is because there is some sort of record keeping behind it, i.e.

During the 'Support the Slave' talk at the DC, the speaker, after extolling the virtues of the FDS and GB, how they have taught us the truth about various biblical teachings etc., tagged on this rhetorical question: "Without a clear lead from the Governing Body, would we be as motivated in preaching the good news?" I thought, Do you really know what you are implying here?
Realisticly ... no. It would be like the churches - some would be called to evangelize formally, most wouldn't.

Back from the DC
by jula71 infirst they should have changed "godly obedience" to "society obedience".
i have never heard obey the gb pushed so hard in all my years as i dub.
it was amazing.

Ditto what you said, jula71.First they should have changed "Godly Obedience" to "Society Obedience". I have never heard obey the GB pushed so hard in all my years as I dub.
My husband said that the talk on the FDS was the worst one he has ever heard - and he has been 'aware' since around 1990. I was feverishly taking notes and was astounded at how blatant and impassioned many statements were in putting the FDS and GB on a pedestal, making them essential to our salvation, the means by which we were drawn to God and the only channel to God. The speaker also said that we should want to be fettered to them, following them wherever they should go (in line with Isa. 45:14). Jesus was barely mentioned. Outrageously unbiblical.
I guess they must be worried.

What did you do as a child (or adult) to survive boredom during meetings?
by Wasanelder Once inwhat did you do as a child (or adult) to survive boredom during meetings?.
as a child i remember sitting behind a sister with a pink angora sweater.
i would pull of a bit of the lint from it and tilt my head back and place it above my lips a bit.

As a child, daydream.
Now I doodle in the WT margins and look for wild assertions to question and find scriptural counter-arguments for. And daydream.

Are you a contradiction of yourself?
by IP_SEC ini was having lunch with my best buddy once.
he was a workmate that i shared an office with and we became very close.
in fact i credit him a lot for helping me to see the world from a different perspective which led to my taking a closer look at the dubs.

Am I messed up? I mean, I am a contradiction of myself.
Join the club! My husband hates cheese but he likes pizza. I think everyone is full of contradictions.

LOL You sound like me in a lot of ways! And I'm not a gemini. It used to trouble me as a Jdub that I thought my zodiac sign was very appropriate (gemini).
I'm friendly, but I don't have many close friends. I can be outgoing and almost too candid about myself, but I'm also very guarded, even with long term friends. Long, long ago (highschool) I was in a speaking/drama type club. I would write and give speeches in competitions. Had no trouble doing this in front of a bunch of strangers, but would freeze if I had to give the same speech in front of people I knew. I can be very passive, but I can also be very proactive. I like to laugh and be funny, but I'm also rather serious and somewhat melancholy. I'm smart about some things and amazingly dense about others.
It's a puzzlement.
