so i thought ok, i will give my kid a pen and my book of bible stories to keep him busy.
then they said that was a bad idea because he might write on the furniture and it wasnt good to teach them to write on the wbt publications.
How did you all keep your babies still and quiet during meetings?
With color crayons (so as not to mess the furniture), coloring books and bright picture books (and the Bible Story book among them). When they got too bored, we'd take them to the back and let them move about or carry them, quietly chatting to them. If people didn't like it, too bad. If they were too tired, we'd go home or not go at all.

the swedish program was televised in norway on monday, and yesterday the congregations received a letter from the branch, responding to some of the accusations of the program.
let that be as it is, but the letter also pointed to how the elders of norway would react to child abuse, and the reactions here do not deviate much from what you would like them to be:.
1. if a child claims it has been abused by a member of the congregation (or someone else) and tells it to her parents (and they choose not to tell it to the elders from the start), it is their privilege to report it to the police, that is entirely up to them if they choose to do so or not.. 2. if they tell it to one of the elders, that elder - or the group of elders - has to report it to the police, it is mandatory.
That's a welcome improvement! However, as Blondie said, what will happen in practice remains to be seen. Also, will those directions be for Norway only? Policies can vary from country-to-country.

In pioneer school we were reminded that Matt 5 was NOT quoting Ps 37. And the WT had not told us it was. Rather it referred to the 144,000 (because the NT was written to them) and their inheriting the earth as kings over it!
That is very interesting about what pioneer school said, peacefulpete. I've had disagreements over Matt 5 on another forum where it was insisted that v.5 applied to the 'other sheep.' It didn't make any sense that Jesus had two groups of Christians in mind when he spoke those words, especially when Paul said Abraham and his offspring would be heirs of the world and Abraham's 'offspring' were also joint heirs with Christ!

Aw, ya know how it works, Blondie. Most go with the flow for the hour, making the right noises, then go home and forget about it. Those who don't forget about it keep up a renewed increased momentum for a couple of weeks before they get pooped and revert to normal. I'm convinced the WTS know this and that is why there is a quick succession of follow up articles (later on chronology and the FDS appointment) to impress the points home. There's a greater chance of the lessons filtering into the long term JW memory. Those who take it seriously are already going at break-neck speed where only death or a life-threatening illness will slow them down. Then there are the cynics who see the manipulation for what it is, go away and fume.

Thanks Blondie for that breakdown. I decided to go to the meeting - I had to know how it would be discussed. The desired responses were given, the right emotions were whipped up. There were 2 or 3 comments on being 90 years into the time of the end so it must be real close, yet only one person who made the parallel between Noah's 120 years and ours, and that we shouldn't defer our sense of urgency for 30 years into the future - the end could happen anytime now.

I've been there too - still there but much better than I was, although the insecure and anger feelings still creep in sometimes - and I remember the 'heart ripped out feeling' because it wasn't so long ago I felt it acutely (especially when I allowed myself to consider the possibility of there being no God).
There's been tons of good advice - I agree with Joyzabel's. Allow time and allow yourself to work through your feelings and constructing a new worldview. You might think your life is purposeless, but this time is valuable for healthy transistion. If you want to read the Bible, use another translation - it helps to avoid the triggered mental responses you get from reading over-familiar renderings and you can let the Bible speak for itself. Perhaps you've done that already.
I am becoming a stronger Christian through it all. I even walked into my local church for the first time the other day - it wasn't for a service, but it was nonetheless a big step for me. It helps me to remember that all religious systems have 'truth and error' in them in varying degrees and that it's OK to have uncertainties because that way we are open to learn.
As Charles Davis said in Question Of Conscience "Man's relation to the truth - at least in this world - is that of unwearying pursuit, not of final possession."
