WT 3-1-05 - Bible sets precedent for receiving governmental aid?
by Bonnie_Clyde inpage 27 - under "jehovah's word is alive," it comments on chapter 2, verse 2: "ruth wanted to take advantage of the provision of gleaning made for the benefit of the foreigners and the afflicted.
she was humble at heart.
a needy christian should not be too proud to accept the loving assistance of fellow believers or any governmental aid he or she may qualify for.".

JW Tsunami Report - rest of quote worth reading
by Bonnie_Clyde inyou may remember i posted two days ago about a ten-page jw tsunami report that was e-mailed to me.
it consisted of about three separate letters.
since the report was so long, i tried to copy and paste some of the quotes from a word document and only got two out of seven.

JW tsunami report - ridiculous quotes
by Bonnie_Clyde ini got a ten-page report from a friend this morning.
at one time i would have been quite impressed with the christian love that our brothers showed.
now i see that their primary concern was themselves--i saw very little concern for non-witnesses.

Jehovahs protection during disasters - need WT article
by Bonnie_Clyde inafter reading the posts about the witnesses who attended the kingdom hall on the east side of the island in sri lanka and were not affected by the tsunami, and the story about the two brothers who were in service up in the mountains instead of sunbathing and they were spared, made me think of a couple of articles i read in the wt several years ago.
one was about a tornado in elkhart, indiana.
it may have been the palm sunday tornado of 1964. the witnesses who attended the meeting were safe, but some who did not attend were killed.

Jehovah's protection during natural disasters - Need article
by Bonnie_Clyde inwhen i saw the e-mail about the brothers in sri lanka who were safe at the kingdom hall because they were on the east side of the island, and the two brothers who were out in service and jehovah protected them because they weren't at the beach, i couldn't help thinking about some articles i read several years ago.. one was about a severe tornado in elkhart, indiana, and the watchtower stated that the brothers who attended the meeting that day were spared.
however, some who stayed home were killed by the tornado.
i'm inclined to think that it was the "palm sunday" tornado that struck indiana and michigan back in april 1964. i can't find any information that goes back that far.

144,000 a literal number
by Bonnie_Clyde inthe questions from readers has affirmed that the 144,000 is a literal number.
it states that some numbers in revelation are symbolic and others are literal.
it argues that since the great crowd which is unnumbered is mentioned right after the 144,000, then logically the 144,000 would have to be literal.
