I have a question regarding the 2-witness rule. I understand that it is almost impossible to have two witnesses to a child molestation, and that it is ridiculous to say that if there is testimony from witnesses to separate acts of abuse that there are no grounds for DFing. However, is the testimony of just one person grounds for DFing if there is no other evidence? Example, I was molested by my 15-year old brother when I was 9. That was many years ago. Since there is no other evidence, other than my own word, how could he ever be convicted? Maybe he could have been at the time based on other evidence--such as semen. After many years, I finally got the courage to mention it to my family. All I've gotten is harsh looks.

Documenting the 2-witness rule applies to child abuse
by Robert_V_Frazier inover at carm, corvus the jw defender from australia is loudly proclaiming that the two-witness rule is never applied when an allegation of child abuse is made.
i pointed out in some detail that the nov. 1, 1995 watchtower article "comfort for those with a 'stricken spirit'", in the section "what can elders do?
" most definitely does teach that:

Maybe it depends upon what part of the country you are from. I don't know of anyone around here who ever uses the KJV. I used to look at it sometimes when I first came into the "truth." In field service I always used the American Standard translation before the complete New World Translation came out. We liked it because it used the name "Jehovah" in the Hebrew Scriptures (OT) about 6,900 times.
I agree that there may have been other factors contributing to the DFing like her belief in going to heaven.

Why did you leave?

The lack of love. They put preaching ahead of showing loving concern for the needs of the sick and elderly. I saw that clearly when I was taking care of my mother.

This is a true story although it happened many years ago. In the early 1960's, the wife of our PO (then called congregation servant) studied with a very sweet old lady in her eighties. This lady loved her Bible and truly loved God. I remember sitting in on the study a couple of times myself. Finally, she decided to get baptized, but she had a problem. She had to wear a patch over her eye, and she was not supposed to ever let her eye get wet. But with full faith in Jehovah she decided to take the step of baptism. Everyone in the congregation (and circuit) supported her and we were so impressed with her love for Jehovah. She was now Sister M.
Later she had to go to a nursing home, maybe it was an assisted care facility, and I went to visit her. She made the comment that she was looking forward to going to heaven. I told the congregation servant (PO) about her statement, saying, "Doesn't she know our hope is earthly?" To my shock a few weeks later, the PO announced that she was disfellowshipped. Being the loyal dub that I was, I obeyed the rule not to speak to a disfellowshipped person and never saw her again. She died not much later. That was about 1965.
Her disfellowshipping bothered me though the years, especially when I became aware of how sometimes older people revert back to their old thinking, and maybe it wasn't her fault that she thought she was going to heaven. More recently, (since I started fading), I came across her name in one of my father's old address books and he immediately mentioned, "Oh she was disfellowshipped." (My father is an elder but not appointed until about 1972). I asked him, why do you suppose they disfellowshipped her? He said, "Well she preferred the King James Bible over the New World Translation." I said, "What's wrong with that?" He became defensive and said something like, If we go to the Kingdom Hall we have to use OUR Bible.
To me, this is the most cruel disfellowshipping I have ever known. The lady did not deserve that kind of treatment. I don't know if my reporting her to the PO was the reason for it or not but it could have been.

Michiganders will be going to Toledo, Ohio, just barely across the Michigan border. There are eight conventions scheduled there--one in Spanish. The Silverdome in Pontiac was a miserable place for an assembly as there was no air conditioning. They would exchange the air one time during the day and that was all. I went to that assembly many times when the temperature was in the 90's. A lot of people just stopped going, including me, because it was too damaging to the health.
My guess is that they changed from one assembly in Pontiac to eight in Toledo to encourage more people to attend. No excuses now--I also used the excuse that June was my busiest month at my work.

would you let your child associate with Jehovahs Witnesses?
by Ellie in.
i'm the only one of my family who is not in 'the truth', and my family don't want anything to do with me.. however, today my mum asked me if she can take my 2 year old to visit the rest of the family, i'm not invited and wouldn't be welcome at any of their houses, so she would be taking my daughter alone.. i told her i would think about it.. i really don't think it would be practical because my daughter is not familiar with the family and i don't want her to be upset.. but the main reason |'m thinking of saying no is that i feel offended that i am not good enough for them to speak to.. am i being selfish if i say no?

Gill - thank you. I want to say that I DO have a lot to be thankful for--a loving husband, two great sons, a wonderful daughter-in-law and a terrific granddaughter. One of my sons was already out, but my other son and his wife have been fading, and this incident has just about finished them. They are rarely at the meetings any more. Interestingly, my daughter-in-laws parents are active, but do not seem a bit judgmental. I'm sad that I'm split off from the rest of the family, but at least part of my family is intact, and they are most important.

Auntie Jane - that is the best advice I read so far.
It's amazing how relatives treat you even when you are not DF'd. I spent almost seven years helping my father take care of my mother whose Alzheimer's progressed to the point where conditions in the house were almost unbearable. I was there from 25 to 30 hours a week, plus working more than full-time. Little help from my daughter or brother even though my brother lived next door. After mother's death and my father's estate became known that he had a lot more money than we realized and valuable property, all of a sudden I have been pushed aside, my daughter has taken over, and am being treated as an outsider. It started last summer when my son-in-law brought up the 1975--that wasn't it terrible how many witnesses were actually selling their homes and property. He hit a nerve and for the first time ever I made a slightly negative comment--only that the Kingdom Ministry had encouraged them to do it. He replied that he would have to see it in writing. I said I would have to look it up but would bring him the Kingdom Ministry. He commented, "Well there is a faithful and discreet slave." I only nodded. However, it was conveyed to my father that I had criticized the slave, and now I am an outsider (scummy dross per yesterday's WT lesson). My father has given most of his assets to my daughter. I've tried to talk to her, but she feels no shame. This happened within the last few months. Will give more details sometime. Right now, I'm just trying to keep my mental stability.

Close family members who are disfellowshipped........
by Tracy inhas their stand on this suddenly received "new light"?
my teen received a letter from my mother telling her they(she and my sister) would no longer be associating with me (her mom) but that she could still come to visit the several states away!?!.
she blubbered on about how her conscience was bothering her everytime she had any interaction with me.

Does the new organizational book even take a harder stand on DFing than the Kingdom Ministry from a couple of years ago?

Coming Soon to JWD: "Keep On The Watch!"
by ezekiel3 inyes, that 32 page brochure that was the highlight of the 2004 district convention and focus of two witnessing campaigns since: keep on the watch!.
now it will be used for the congregation book study for 5 weeks.. many have already on the site commented how banal and shallow the reasoning is to this brochure.
but just in case you don't have your own copy, the faithless and indiscreet slave (your's trully) has seen fit to share this with you on a weekly basis.. most of the brochure does not feature study questions, so the kingdom ministry (april 2005) has supplied this, and these questions will be included in our weekly study as well.. the material will be presented in its raw form, without commentary.

WTS Bills US JWs $8.4 million for Traveling Overseers
by ezekiel3 inbeing announced at service meetings this week at all us congregations:.
a letter read during the announcements states that due to increased costs of health insurance and vehicles provided for traveling overseers (circuit and district overseers) the watchtower bible and tract society has determined the need to ask for a specific "contribution" for the "traveling overseer assistance arrangement".. .
until this date expenses of this sort were paid from the worldwide work or general fund of contributions.. .

During a circuit assembly about a year ago, the CO said that some brothers were concerned about the high cost of health insurance. He said that they should not be overly concerned because very soon now we will be living in the new world, and we will enjoy perfect endless health.
That being the case....why should they even bother with health insurance for the CO's and DO's?
