Pets aren't people, says speaker at Regional Convention. Fido and Mimi better watch out! And instead of drinking wine or beer go do some gardening or play golf.
by oppostate ina big discussion driving back from the regional convention about what exactly was meant about pets.. the warning was obvious to me.
don't get pets, they cost time and money and you would do better to spend your time and money supporting the organization and going in field service.. as to the wine and beer, because the bro during his soliloquy admitted that the first thing he would like to do is relax after a hectic day at work with a glass of wine or beer, his conscience was traumatized.
however he came up with a perfect idea, he'd go tend the garden (obviously a solution for a married bro) or hit some golfballs at the driving range (maybe he's not married).. maybe jesus should have told the wine guzzlers at cana to sober up and go till the fields.. .

JWs have historically downplayed animals to a great degree to avoid the pesky "why would God create animals to suffer if he's good," issue.
According to their theology, God is good and perfect and wouldn't think of doing cruel things, also, according to their theology, animals lived before humans and the fossil record backed that up. Well, animals obviously killed each other before humans were on the planet, so to cover that issue up, animals don't "feel" in the same way as humans and are "not like humans and shouldn't be thought of as such and don't care about living forever even though they fear death," so it's fine that a loving God would require people to slaughter them for sins and say it's ok to eat them.

Android or iPad? Help please.
by Xanthippe init seems i am going to have to teach people to use a tablet as part of my job and i don't even have one!
any advice would be most helpful please.. i keep reading blurb on amazon etc and now i'm really confused.
what should i buy?

As someone that actually develops for both...
Android devices are better in almost every way possible -if- you are sure you get the devices that are comparable in spec to the corresponding Apple device. It's the same when it comes to PCs vs. Macs; with you easily spending ~500 less for a ocmparable PC to Mac.
Androids have the "you can put anything on them via USB" advantage (without hacking an Applie product) that is HUGE, especially since it's useful as a last second storage/transfer device as well. For instance, on job interviews, I sync demo reels and audio with my PC and Tablets without having to go through iTunes or hack into the iPad.
However, for the layman that just wants to buy stuff via a central store and not even bother plugging into a USB port, and whose eyes cross when they see al lthe android tablets available, not knowing the spec differences, they typically do better with the "simple" choice of just buying an iPad.

The INTJ Personality Type, (and those close to it)
by done4good ini am compelled to write a bit about this at this late hour here in the us, because it is keeping me up.. the recent four year old thread on the briggs myers personality type test that was dug up, produced an interesting finding.
many here, (at least tested informally for), the intj personality type.
intjs also do not understand irrational behavior particularly well at all.. why does this matter?
-

You -know- less INTJs because they're probably the least likely to talk to other people the most, as they've already judged it a waste of time :)
With forums, they can pick and choose what they feel like responding to while ignoring every single other thing, with no real repercussions.

US Supreme Court: Hobby Lobby wins we lose
by designs inthe old guys sided with hobby lobby today in denying birth control coverage to its female employees based on the owners religious views.
intact- is viagra for the guys.
funny how the far right evangelical owners of hobby lobby didn't want to touch that one.... read judge ginburg's scathing counter argument and opinion.. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/13pdf/13-354_olp1.pdf.

The large issue is that Hobby Lobby's reasoning is wrong. Plan B is not an abortive - it's a contraceptive. They are arbitrarily deciding that their religion says something is not what it actually is, and the Supreme Court is backing up their ignorance in allowing them to make policy based on that. That's the big issue here.

The Bible speaks a lot of spirits and possessed individuals, but it strangely has no idea at all what a mental illness is. How curious that is! It's almost as if the former is a goofy explanation for the latter!
Similarly, people that claim supernatural events typically don't understand one or more of these concepts:
- waking dreams
- confirmation bias
- various mental illnesses
- night terrors
- etc.
Or willfully ignore them as a possibility once they are pointed out (possibly because the idea then becomes "something is wrong with them," rather than, "they are special." How curious that is! -

Question for Atheists.. Did you gain a Greater Sense of Morality and Happiness?
by objectivetruth ini've heard some view points that state, atheists are generally more moral & caring for fellow humans, than are theists.. i'd like to hear some personal stories of life changes and quality of life after you became atheist.
i have a simple theory that may explain this.. i'll explain my theory if you'd like, after a few responses, as i really am interested in the personal changes that you experienced.. thank you very much, and i look forward to your stories..

China is not an "atheist country," whatever that means. As stated above, it's a communist country, but communism has nothing to do with atheism as a default, any more than democracy does with theism. There are multiple religions practiced widely in China, some of which have gods.

INTJs are a minority of the population, but one of the most prevalent parts of Internet forums because we prefer to communicate directly and logically with facts and figures, with forums lend themselves to (as opposed to the more freeform nature of most person to person communication).

The other thing is that I don't modify how I live my life according to belief in the big bang. It mostly comes down to, "this is interesting." That and other most likely theories with the evidence we have aren't a basis for day to day actions.

I don't think the worldly boyfriend guy was presented badly/negatively.
I think they put in that "people should date and have sex with who they want and not judge other people for doing it" to scare JWs, because to them, they would think that's the most horrible thing ever since virginity until marriage and one person ever is God's way and everything else is disgusting.
However, in real life, as long as one maintains being safe/careful with it, his attitude is probably optimal and also something a lot of "worldly" people can learn - that up-front promiscuity is perfectly fine as long as you're honest about it, and a good way to discover what you actually want so you don't end up just being with the "wrong" person due to horniness. His progressive nature was pretty consistent throughout, and he would make an excellent person for that girl to date to kind of segue her out of the religion.
