Do you have any Dietary Restrictions?

    Emma,

Yes, I drink beer on occasion. And yes, I suffer. I usually pay for it for a few days afterwards: muscle/join pain, grogginess, general feeling of hung over/unwell. My biggest symptom is major moodiness. For some reason cheating really jacks with my chemistry. So it has to be a really strong craving when I give in: apostofests. When I want to imbibe, I try to stick to potato vodka, tequila, and rum or wine. Love wine!

Where are you located? I am in Dallas, Texas, so I have access to Whole Foods Markets. I think they're a national chain now though. You cn look them up at www.wholefoods.com. They have their own line of GF bakery items that are the best I've ever found. Blueberry muffins tastes just as good as the kind you'd get at Starbucks. Peanut butter cookies that rival my grandmothers. They also have some breads that are pretty good, but only if toasted. (I have yet to find a GF bread that is good without being toasted.) Some other items I've discovered that are really good:

    • Pamela's Brownie Mix - just discovered this last night and made a batch this morning. OMG - these are wonderful!
    • Tinkyadas Pasta - The best by far!!! Better than Trader Joes I think.
    • Ener G's Pretzels - can't tell their GF

As for salad dressing, I usually try to stick to oil and vinegar with my own spices/herbs. Better than anything I've had in a jar. I have discovered another site I'll PM to you later. (At work right now and can't find it.) I've heard they even have donuts there!

    Mega,

My new vodka I was telling you about: Monopalowa. I swear...you'll try it and drop that Belvedere stuff for good. It's smoother and about $20 cheaper. LOL

Ya know, everyone was telling me Grey Goose was supposed to be so great but I think it pales in comparison to the Belvedere. Not to mention GG is *cough* French. *cough cough*

Okay. I'll pick up some Monopalowa on the way home.

It's good not to be vodka intolerant.

yeah... I was told the same thing about Pearl vodka... way better than GG and cheaper.....IT SUCKED...IMO.

I always end up back with GG and never have hangovers...my favorite part.

    As far as dietary restrictions...none.

But I knew a few CO's that were in such bad shape that they could only eat steak and lobster...Starbucks frapps...imported red wine... caviar and the occasional Cheesecake Factory confection... but they did it for Jehovah!

Brave bastards...I don't know how they endure it...

Ya know, my friends are always saying GG is the best. Still haven't tried it though.

Love the vodka martini. I had my first Bloody Mary a couple weeks back. I know, I'm how old? Geez, my parents aren't vodka drinkers and my husband doesn't drink. Lucky for me I have friends who introduced me to the beloved V. Anyway, this Bloody Mary was a meal. I'm totally sold. It was fabulous AND at a casino just down the road from my house so only $3 a drink...in a tall glass.

Love vodka with liz blizz by Sobe. Takes me no time at all to get quite plastered when vodka is around.

Hey Andi, I have no dietary restrictions except those I place on myself. Currently, I'm too close to a triathlon to be drinking so I'm off the booze for a couple weeks, and keeping my diet relatively clean. The apple fritter I had this morning was well deserved after my 1/2 mile swim across a lake and back in overcast drizzly weather. I won't be having another anytime soon.

I'm sorry you have such restrictions but happy that you know what makes you sick and a way to eat around it. We have Whole Foods here too, but it isn't close and I never go there.

I absolutely LOVE vodka... it's definitely my alcohol of choice. (No princess, my favorite alcohol is NOT smurf juice.. truth be told I'm not crazy about that stuff. lol)

I will mix vodka with almost anything, but right now my favorite is mixing Vanilla Stoli with Sprite or 7-up. Yum that's good!

Andi - I've learned to make my own Laulau's! And they are wonderful. The trick is getting ahold of taro leaves. Here in Portland (Seattle too) we have a huge asian grocery called Uwajimaya and they import Taro leaf for about the same price I can buy them at the Hilo Market. I use banana leaf instead of ti, it's much less expensive - I find it in the asian frozen foods. They have laulaus there, too, but they have butterfish and when I make them I can leave out the butterfish. I wrap my chicken thighs and pork in 5 or 6 taro leaves, wrap in banana leaf and tie with cotton string. I stack these in a spaghetti cooker with the lift out sieve, add 3 inches of water, 1/2 tsp of hickery smoke in a bottle, and steam-bake in the oven for 4-6 hours. Check the water regularly and rotate the laulaus half way thru cooking (use tongs). I also do kalua pork this way, wrapping a chunk of lightly sea-salted pork butt in banana and steam-roasting for 4-6 hours with the laulaus. MMmmmm Onolicious!

I've just gone and made myself hungry for hawaiian food. Oh well, Hawaiian fried rice is on tonights menu. Made with spam of course!
