I hate them. But I'm going to enjoy this one....

Between napping, dropiing Bogus checks in the boxes, trying to hang out with the protestors, and playing Mahjong and solitaire on my palm, I'll br pretty damn busy.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention taking pictures for you guys, leeaving the parking lot for lunch, and pissing on the floor in the bathroom...

Crumpy and doray, what lovely memories. I was there with you guys. The phoney american recordings of the dramas always hacked me off a bit (sorry, my over the pond cousins). I thought cant they even be bothered to re-record it in our own language the lazy tikes.

And trying to identify tea towels and bed sheets in the olden days costumes was good fun.

To be totally, totally honest! they were bloody hard work!!!! I had four children, and sitting on tiny uncomfortable seats, which anyway were only meant to be sat on for the length of a football game! and trying to keep the kids happy and make sure you always knew where they were, and it either rained or the sun shone hot and you were sticky and clammy! Phew! good to get that off my chest!!! thank goodness don't have to go anymore and pretend to be enjoying it! the worst as well was when others said to you after 'Did you enjoy the assembly??' Glad they didn't ask what did i remember!! Was too busy keeping an eye on the kids and trying to stay awake!

As a youngster I enjoyed them (DC's) since it constituted our annual vacation and was the only time you could see other young JW's. It was at an "international" Montreal assembly I bought my first legal beer (the legal age was 18 in Quebec as oppsed to 19 everywhere else.)

The PO's son and I would disappear downtown right after the sessions down to St. Catherines all night (neat experience for a small town kid). I still laugh about the day when Dad decided we'd take a walk for a few Subway stops one evening back to our hotel. We sauntered right through the red light district past seedy bars and strip joints when all the prostitutes were just showing up for work!

I so agree, Katiekitten! Those big, booming American accents coming over the sound system floored me every time. It got to the stage where, whenever I'd read anything in the Bible about Moses or Ezekiel and crew, I'd imagine they had American accents. Now, that's really pathetic! I remember a non-JW colleague warned me about getting involved in "American cults". I was so convinced my grandparents' JW religion was not a cult. How dare my colleague even suggest such a thing! Looking back, she was right - and, I hate to say it, the Watchtower reeked of all that I find objectionable about America every bit as much as Mormons and 7th-Day Adventists.

For young people, it is one of the few times I had to meet other young people and see what marriage possible choices existed beyond the local area. Other then that, no.

I have a distant memory of a "Jezebel" drama, although i can't remember what year it was, i was quite young. At Crystal Palace Stadium, London, they had a curious wooden construction to represent the window frame of Jezebel's bed-chamber. I remember the scream of horror as Jezebel was pushed 2-feet to her death, then had her "fleshy parts" eaten by invisible ravaging dogs.
I remember the drama about Esau and Jacob, where the brother that played Esau came onto the green with these HUGE (only god knows what the hell they were) thick, black carpet-like things stuck to his arms. I remember giggling so hard that i had tears streaming down my face. I noticed that no one else was laughing, which made me laugh even harder.
And finally, i remember last years Convention at Cardiff Millenium Stadium where the sister playing the "demon-possesed girl of Philipi" danced around like an African voodoo dancer. I laughed so hard... and the icing on the cake was the demon-girl's voice which ironically resembled the Borg Collective, a thousand demons talking in unison.
I also attended the Sunday morning session of the Convention back home at London in Twickenham Stadium (just to see the drama again) but the demon-girl only did a boring zombie walk... the Borg voice was still a treat though.

Honestly, do you think that JW like going to the meeting 3 times a week, month after month, year after year?

Forget assemblies, these are few times a year. Meeting are where your attention is completely ruined that you can't ever again concentrate on any sort of lecture. Possibly, reason why many dubs don't even think about furthering their education.

When I was young I hated assemblies, whole days of boring talks, sitting with my Mum who made me feel guitly for going to the loo. I remeber one time I tried to sit with some mate and she went ape.

However when I was about 16 I started to hang around with some slightly odler people who my Mum viewed as more spiritiual, which meant I could sit with them.

Of course they wheren't really more spiritual, they just knew how to play the game. I can remeber one year where 3 of us shared a hotel room and managed to consume a bottle of Rum and a bottle of Whisky. I can remeber throwing up out of the Window at about 2 in the morning and having a conversation with the sister in the next room who was doing the same.

About this time we started to leave at lunch to get lunch from a local pub, then forget to return in the afternoon.

I also bought my first porn while at an assembly (ok it was just a gay times, but would have been worse than having real porn). Also got the First Harry Potter book while there.
