What do you think of justice in the UK?

    ****dare I say it****?

That's one thing I LOVE about Colorado... we have borrowed some laws from our brothers down in Texas...

They're called..."Make My Day!" laws. Taken from the Dirty Harry movie.

For example #1... If some loser decides to break into a home (or refuses to vacate when asked politely to do so)...if he is found by the owner of the home and DOES NOT have permission to be there he can be shot on sight... as long as he's IN my home (this includes the porch). The local cops even say if you shoot some dumb bastard who's robbed you you'd better make damn sure he's either IN your home or you drag his ass back inside or your toast.

Example #2... If I walk into my house and find my wife in bed with "someone" else I can shoot either of them on the spot with no criminal recourse... however I can't leave the scene go find a gun and hunt them down and kill them.... only at the time of the "crime".

Contrary to the "liberal" arguments against this... these crimes have come to a stand still... and the few dumb asses that do get killed while attempting such... well let's just say their "defective genes" will no longer be passed on.... thus saving society the burden of their defective progeny.

That's why all the criminals are moving to California.... which sound pretty much like the "England" described previously.

Flea- that IS the case... "adultery" is still technically "illegal" in some states... as is Sodomy... although rarely enforced and quickly being done away with.

I'm not positive... but the legal precedant and reasoning is probably an issue of property / contract violation (trespassing) and one of rage... in other words the heat of the moment and the extemely traumatic and emotional harm done can excuse the murder? Not positive on that just speculating...need a Texan lawyers input...

A couple of months ago in a town near us... two neighbors got into a fight ( I think ones dog kept crapping in the others yard ) they verbally argued quite a bit and the entire neighborhood knew and was used to it. Then one day it happened again... the victim went to the neighbors house and began yelling at him... neighbors were watching... he was warned to leave... he refused.... so the perpetrator went and got a gun and again said leave.... the man refused and so he shot and killed the man (stupid I agree)... to everyone's surprise the asshole that shot him got off SCOT FREE! Due to the "Make My Day" law.

This is unfortunately a rare example of the law actually backfiring... but it's true. You can still carry a loaded pistol in your car here (no round in the chamber though... and can easily get a concealed weapon permit)

I have a good friend that is a Sheriffs Deputy here and he has verified that these laws are in fact real and in force.

Her mistake was reveling herself to the vandals.

The vandals kept getting away with their crimes by always hiding from her... all she had to do was respond in same: Get an air rifle and squeeze off a few rounds at the vandals from a concealed location.

Everyone seems to be talking about the lack of punishment in the UK. There's more to justice than punishment.

I don't know about the UK... but in the US justice is strictly a commodity of those wealthy enough to afford it.

The person with the most expesive lawyer almost always wins... (OJ ring a bell?)

I even said it to a judge once for a minor infraction.... I stated that what I'm guilty of isn't being wrong, but rather not having the funds to hire the right attorney to get me out of this mess.... he whole-heartedly agreed... and still made me pay the fine and told me that now I have incentive to make more $$ with my life so as to not find myself in this predicament in the future...(in a very smart ass tone)

    I was so pissed.

As you were previously extolling the virtues of the way crime is dealt with in your State, I am puzzled as to whether you agree with what happened above or not?
