And soon, his funeral.....

The hospital chaplain just called. My baby's body has been returned to the hospital following post-mortem examination at a specialist children's hospital. So, the funeral can go ahead soon.

We have opted for a cremation. With such a small baby, there may not be any ashes, but if there are, there is a "baby garden" where they will be scattered.

Now we have to think about the content and format of the funeral. We can choose music, bible readings and prayers. My parents are JWs, but I am sure they will come. Grant's parents are nominal Church of England, I think. Grant and I are not religious. Well, I enjoy religion, but I am atheist.

I don't know where to begin. What scripture readings are appropriate for this? What music? I don't want it to be maudlin. Proverbs 3? Any thoughts?

I am so very sorry. Do whatever makes you feel comforted. We had someone sing "Amazing Grace" at my dad's funeral, and that was lovely.

    Fe203Girl,

You're son was loved. This is the greatest gift a parent can give a child.

Plan out what, in your heart, best expresses your feelings.

My prayers and love are with your family,

I'm so sorry for the loss of your precious son. Since your Atheist and your hubby is non religious, you could opt for a service put together by Unitarian Universalist. They are a bend of many religion, atheist's and pagans. Their songs are very nice too. As the Funeral home if they have a Unitarian minister they could suggest.

I pray you have a lovey service and honor your son's brief life.
