Well, the day started okay.. sigh. Today in Charlotte, it is known as Meck Dec Day for the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. We attended b/c my husband is a decendant of the signers of this document. Anyyy-way.. we get to the old Settlers Cemetery and there is a hole in the grass. It is not visable due to the grass covering it making it look like solid ground. I twisted the (*(@E@#@! out of my left ankle as I went down. All the cousins ( who were decked out btw in Revolutionary period clothing) came to my aid. It was embarassing to fall flat on my face like that in front of all the media of curse (of Course). It is so painful. I don't know what is more wounded my pride or my body. I am really p'od b/c we have been complaining for a while about the lack of care. The City is supposed to keep the grounds.

Any one have a remedy for a twisted ankle? It is swollen on the top and the arch is tender, as well as a few toes.

    X.

An ankle. It hurt like like mad. I understand that an icepack and elevating the limb, is the way to go. I did neither and suffered for it.

It was about six weeks before I could properly bear weight on it, and even now (over three years later) it occasionally gives me twinges.

Poor Xandria.......They are so painful. Rest Ice C? Elevate. Keep it elevated so the fluids don't puddle as much and cause more swelling. Keep well medicated the first couple days. Don't worry about your pride. I'm sure no one thought anything but how to help you.

Hubby sprained his ankle several times, I have never. Once you do it, it seems to stay weak or proned to recur. The best thing he has found is the air cast the doctor gave him. It supports very well and keeps the swelling down alot. It stablizes the ankle so you can function much more and less painfully then with out it. It is hard plastic with a pillow of air between it and the skin. He keeps one with him in the truck so he can get it on right away reducing the damage if it goes out again.

I am so sorry Xandria that you twisted your ankle. I just am getting over the same thing,,,,although it happened over three months ago. I was wearing some very high boots, and let me tell ya I am a klutz anyway,,,,,add a few drinks to that and it is a terrible combination. I stepped down into a low place on the ground and twisted my ankle in those darn boots.

I hate to make this sound so bad, but in my case it was,,,,, I didnt go to the doctor because I have twisted my ankle before ,,,,,,,I just kept waiting this time for it to get better. It took so long to heal,,,,,,,I thought maybe I broke a small bone or something. I have heard that tearing ligaments and tendons is worse in recovery time that it takes for a broken bone to heal.

I had to wear an ankle brace with metal sides to keep the ankle straight and had a hard time even laying down ,no comfortable way to lay my foot. The kids were always falling on my ankle or the dog jumped on it. I now have arthritis in that ankle and it flares up when the weather is bad or I over do.

I have arthritis anyway in my feet and hands, and have had that since I was a child so maybe that is why I still hurt and why it took so long for me to heal. I sure hope that your ankle will be alright,,,,,go to the store before you twist it more and get one of those lace up types of ankles braces with the metal rods in the sides,,,,,that will keep the ankle from moving and getting more stressed.

Let me know how long it takes for you too feel better,,,,, I never went to the doctor , although I wish looking back now,,,,that I would have.

I often sprained my ankle(s) last time was in January this year - and it took 1 month before i could walk properly again. (and everytime I felt I was looking around if nobody did see it)

The trick is to take Arnica montana drops or granules D30.

It is working remarkable on the swellings and ofcourse you have to take precautions to hurt your ankle again.

    (like racing horses with putties)

    Good luck with the healing.

Yes....I sprained it when I was in 3rd grade...I foolishly jumped off the stage after getting my fall picture taken (all the other kids were jumping off, so I joined)

I felt pretty stupid as well....Went to the dr. and of course, not much of anything could be done. Ice packs really helped, to reduce the swelling and then he told me to walk on it as soon as possible!!! Yeah, right....

You have to remember that info was given to me 30 years ago!!!

    Recent info: http://orthopedics.about.com/cs/sprainsstrains/ht/sprainedankle.htm

Anyways...the only thing worse than a sprain is a broken bone....that hurts like heck!!!

Hope you start feel better soon!

    ohh my!!

I sprained my Ankles, both of them, serveral times. This didn't stoped until I went to a specialist in sport injuries, the last time that I sprained my ankle, the second I went to this doctor to receive massage, and these very day I was walking, and making exercicies to rehabilitate my ankle (strength pre-prioception, etc..) and running...

Th problem with recursive ankle sprain resides, not in lack of strengh of the strained ankle, but in the pro-prioceptive alteration of the joint because of the injury, the joint is altered in way it perceives itself, and is not able to "detect" when is reaching a "dangerous" angle of rotation. The key is to make some special exercices to "re-educate" the ankle and restore and correct this capacity.
