i think the main german news agencies are quite neutral.
but besides that...there is media controlled by socialist governments and there is media controlled by the industry. the diversity in the mass media is certainly higher.

i personally have seen very little if any critical journalism before the war (granted...maybe i just missed it). not even the NYtimes reported about criticism voiced by (mainly european) middle east experts or by people like noah chomsky. the difference in reporting between US mass media and european media was like a difference between day and night - or better hell and heaven.
