And you know what else?!!! No more KH construction contributions for them either!!!

From now on, I'll probably just contribute $10 or less for our local cong; and this only because I'm being considerate for the time that I still go and know that the utility bills have to get paid.

They can continue to train whomever, but I'll feel much better because not a penny of mine will go towards it.

It's not unusual for businesses to underwrite students in trades where they need employees. Here bakeries used to send students to baking school with an agreement they they would work for the company for a few years after they graduated. Moral? Go to school . . . get in the dough.

So, what we hope for (pray for if you will) is that one of these Lawyers then leaves the borg and shares some secrets.

Yes I have heard of them doing that many times.

Another one I know of is a woman who was newly baptized who was in Medical School, and wrote to ask how long she had to pioneer to apply to Bethel. She planned to quit school and pioneer. They told her to finish, get her MD and they would bring her in immediately.

I am not disgusted --I am pleased -- as long as it is now OK for all other witnesses to go to college -- you can not have things both ways -- if we are all equal in the eyes of God then all brothers and sisters should be able to go to college

DY: you just heard about this now????? C'mon, where on earth is your congregation?? Here in Canada I know of two brothers personally (and there are others) who have been sent to law school, all expenses paid by the WTS, and this was years ago, at least 10 years ago, if not more. So in the U.S. it must have been happening for even longer.

So, what we hope for (pray for if you will) is that one of these Lawyers then leaves the borg and shares some secrets.

Yeru: now that would be good!

Wow, I don't understand all the negative comments. What do you EXPECT a large corporation to do ????????

It is typically a BARGAIN to pay the tuition and expenses for 3 years of law school (in New York, I would expect them to live in one of the Society's properties anyway). Depending on the school, it may total 75,000 to 150,000 less any scholarships.

For example, take $125,000 divided by a rate of $250/hour if they had to pay the attorneys fees to an outside firm, and you have 500 hours. The Society could easily recoup it's investment in the first year if the person agreed to "donate" as little as 10 or so hours a week. After that, it's pure savings.

It only makes sense to invest in your own employees or members since they tend to be more loyal anyway. Any organization that is fiscally responsible only outsources professional services when "specialists" are involved.

Abide by the law is what I expect and the law says equal opportunity for everyone - -so I say again. they should now allow all brothers and sisters to go to college and not condemn or dissapprove of those who do

Naturally, most on this board will agree with you...but a "good" JW can easily explain that away. Sure, it's OK to go to college, as long as you are going to use your skills in full-time service to Jah just as these Lawyers are doing. Actually where I live, people don't have a problem with JWs going to college like they use to and it seems to be quite acceptable.
