I can't believe they actually said that.

I went through this dilemma 40 years ago. I did ask my teachers to avoid Thursday homework assignments. The guys in sports asked for homework breaks on practice nights.

I think what is happening is the old "I hate the meetings, let's use homework excuse" dilemma. The WTS can't figure out that the meetings are totally boring and that is why people don't want to come.

    Cruzanheart.....

That is exactly how I remember it..

"I remember with great regret how tired my little ones were the morning after a meeting, even before the homework started to hit. I don't remember my parents ever letting me out of a meeting for homework, though, but I don't remember having as much homework as the kids of today do."

Along the lines of Shamus. Yes, I could see Jah getting upset about the sabbath, why? Because the rest of the week they have off and they are schooled by their parents. Did the Israelites children have to go out in service and prepare talks? Did they have weekly meetings to prepare for?

As to temple duties, who was responsible for that, children? No, the Levites were. What about this one-tenth deal anyways? I mean, the Israelites were required ONLY one-tenth of whatever it was to Jah, while the FDS requires 24/7 of your time! Is there something wrong with this picture? Talk about reasonableness, where is it? Is it no wonder there's emotional and brain damage within the ranks of the JW's? Take thses comments with a grain of salt, a ton if need be.

Correct me if I'm wrong, PLEASE.

That is just sick. We always let our kids stay home when they had homework they couldn't finish. It didn't happen often, but when it did, we were reasonable.

Dubs, you don't have to be thick but it helps......... us to keep you within the fold

I can remember way back when (probably some time in the mid 80's) when there was an article which actually warned against getting a decent education as it would lead to pride in ones self and less reliance on Jehovah. They pointed out that the bulk of the congregation weren't the educated phylosophers but were 'common folk' who were meek and teachable.

Now I find this bloody offensive (isn't there a scripture that says something along the lines of using your gifts to god's praise?) where they are basically saying that it's ok to be thick because only then will you not question the garbage food that the WTBTS provides.

Why oh why oh why do those within the congregation not see this and destroy them from within?

I wonder if some "drifters" are using homework as an excuse for not attending meetings.

I sure did! I used to sit on my bed writing in my Journal, but I told my mother that I had a ton of homework. I would always have a textbook open just to make it look real. I got out of a lot of meetings because of "homework". It's sad to see this in print. I feel for the ones who are under 18 and want out of the WT. They no longer have an excuse to stay home from meetings.

They just don't get it... every time they tighten the knuckle-screws they are going to loose even more people.

I don't recall who said it, but the WTS really is becoming more of what they are: A high-control cult.

    Like others said: "what's next?"

The WTBS is taking away the rights of the parents to decide how to raise their children.

Education is a must in order to get a decent job. I missed meetings while growing up if I had too much homework. While I raised my 2 sons...they weren't forced to a meeting if they had too much homework...

    This absolutely stinks!!

I was rarely allowed to miss a meeting even when i had homework. It was terrible, I had to do my homework after the meeting and half the time our meeting would run overtime, then my parents would gab for thirty minutes and I would'nt get home till nearly 10:00pm! I can't imagine what these little children of hard core dub zealot parents must be going through because I know for a fact children get a lot more homework than they used to and in many cases teachers require that every assignment must be turned in or they fail the class. Oh wait pressure at school is another "test" from jehooober right?
