AnonyMous: The interesting thing is that JWs are not banned in Russia, the only thing that got banned was certain articles that disparage "apostates" and the shunning doctrine.

Mmmmm...I believe that the Jehovah's Witnesses have been declared an "extremist" organization and as such, the activities of the JWs are banned.

Because the JWs are now considered extremist, some JWs in Russia have lost their jobs with public service. Many KH's have already been closed by the Ministry of Justice.

As far as only "certain articles" being banned, that is an understatement. Any piece of literature that promotes the concept of elitism, or disparages others' beliefs, has been banned. There are several pieces (over 80) of WT literature that are on the list of banned extremist literature in Russia, including My Book of Bible Stories.

Any EXCESS funds should be sent to us, WTBTS ( i.e. not required for now defunct KH upkeep) . Or for overseer's of course. But.....

NO mention of funds being set up for dependents of those arrested or have lost jobs due to being JW's.

They care nothing for the trusting sheep. Just "their" money.

My Book Of BIble Stories is a horrific picture book for children.

The Abraham about to sacrifice his son picture says it all really.

Anon Mous, can you cite any references to support your claim?

For the record, the Russian Judicial Court recently ruled that JW organization be banned in Russia, stripping it of its assets and monies; however, as is their right, JW lawyers appealed the ruling and the appeals will be before the Russian Supreme Court in July-August.

Should the earlier ruling stand, JW organization will be banned nation-wide.

The first letter mentioned district overseers?

I though that position was eliminated worldwide...

Comment 1: The emphasis on "make sure we get OUR money" makes me physically nauseous

Comment 2: It seems the WTS never learns. Everything they commit to paper or electronic communication gets leaked, often within hours. Yet they continue to send the stuff as if "holy spirit" or something will blind the eyes of the Russian authorities (if we nitwits on this forum have such easy access to these documents, do you think Russian government-sponsored hackers don't?).

Can you imagine, I don't know, the German army in WW2 continuing to send top-secret information via Enigma, year after year, after knowing the Allies had broken the code? Would they just go ahead and send it anyway?

@steve2: if you read stuff closer to the source (most western media simply copy-pasted the JW.org article) what the courts closed was the Administrative Center of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia and its subsidiaries.

They specifically were warned several times of the specific literature and doctrines that was extremist (namely the disfellowshipping and shunning of family members and the disparaging of other religions) and they would've been able to continue if they simply disavowed those.

At no point did the courts ban the religion of Jehovah's Witnesses or the Bible or the meeting of other groups or religions not related to the Administrative Center, and as a matter of fact, even that ban will not go into effect until the Supreme Court appeal has been heard.

    Anonymous, regarding your comment:

At no point did the courts ban the religion of Jehovah's Witnesses or the Bible or the meeting of other groups or religions not related to the Administrative Center,

Banning the Administrative center and the local 395 chapters equates to banning the religion of Jehovah’s Witnesses. In 2009, the Taganrog LRO was liquidated. Sixteen JW’s who met for meetings were criminally charged in 2013. Groups and religions that are not related to the Administrative center are those who have either not yet registered themselves or those whose registrations are pending as of the Supreme court ruling. So if Jehovah’s Witnesses are declared extremists even after the appeal, the decision will be interpreted as a de facto ban on the religious activity of JW’s and the law enforcement authorities will carry on investigations on all JW’s and will criminalize them.

Some points to remember about the Russian ban:

    1. On April 20, 2017, Russian Supreme court not just closed the Administrative center, but criminalized the activities of the Center and declared it as extremist. Here are the words of Judge Yuri Ivanenko: “The Supreme Court has ruled to sustain the claim of Russia's ministry of justice and deem the 'Administrative Centre of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia' organisation extremist, eliminate it and ban its activity in Russia,”

    2. What does this mean? Now, in Russia, JW’s have the same status as ISIS. Each of the over 170,000 Witnesses could be criminally prosecuted merely for meeting for worship, reading the Bible together, or preaching. (irrespective of whether they belong to the banned LRO or not.)

    3. Russia has harassed and closed many non-orthodox religious faiths (e.g. Scientology), however, this is the first time that Russia has criminalized or declared a registered religious group as extremist.

    4. The Supreme Court ban is just one appeal away from being handed over to the police, who would then start investigating all meetings of JW’s.

This is truly disgusting , I think the Australian Royal Commission would even be interested in these letters showing just where the Governing Body of JW`s has their priorities.$$$$$$ rather than sexually Abused Children.

Certainly the Russian Government would also see just what the priorities are with the WT/JW religion$$$$$$ not people

News people Journalists who have taken an interest in WT/JW goings on should be informed about these letters that highlight their main concern is all about the money Surely there is a story their.

Wasnt their people who were involved in the film "Spotlight" at a meeting about JW`s recently ? Maybe they would be interested in these letters .

If they could produce a movie like spotlight on the JW religion that would be heaven sent.
