    How reliable are JW figures? Ronald Lawson and Kenneth Xydias did an impressive amount of research on this topic and published their findings recently. They examined census results in 54 countries, as well as five surveys in the United States, and compared these with official numbers from the Mormon church, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Seventh-day Adventists. What did they find? They discovered that Mormons grossly overstate their membership and Jehovah’s Witnesses vastly underestimate theirs.

    They conclude that while the Mormon church claims 16.1 million members, census and survey data indicate that only 8.6 million identify themselves as Mormons.

    Jehovah’s Witnesses claim 8.2 million publishers, but census and survey data indicate that 17.5 million self identity as Jehovah’s Witnesses.

    Seventh-day Adventists claim 20.7 million members, which was also an underestimate compared with census and survey data that showed 26.8 million.

    So on the basis of that research, Jehovah’s Witness official numbers give a modest representation of their numerical strength.

    So, bear in mind, Wt certainly is not alone in that regard.

    So bear in mind that WT is the little/younger sister to her bigger/older more beautiful sister...the Momon Church...so of course you're going to see a lot of similarities between the two...silly!

    ...anyone else notice that when joe134cd comments in support of or in defense of WT slimboyfat is not too far behind with his comment...wondering if these two sleep together!

    🤣

    That would be difficult since we are literally on opposite ends of the planet. But Joe is a sensible fellow, so no mystery that I often make comments backing up his. 😉

    Instead of working out who makes comment for or against, isn’t it more interesting to get to the substance of the issue? Someone raised the relevant issue of whether Watchtower statistics can be trusted. It just so happens that there has been recent academic work which is relevant to the topic. Isn’t that of interest? I found it interesting in any case, so I shared it.

    ''Jehovah’s Witnesses claim 8.2 million publishers;;

    They 'claim' to have that many, a 'claim' is about it. They have to massage that number.

    BethSarim : All the conspiracy theories about Wt doctoring it numbers is, just simply, not true.

    I also firmly believe that the Mormon church been more successful is just as fictional as well.
