ITALY MILAN - 2017 SPECIAL CONVENTION - July 2017
Marking the 54th ANNIVERSARY of the legendary 1963 Franz and Knorr "Everlasting Good News" AROUND-THE-WORLD TOUR which stopped off at Milan's world famous Vigorelli Velodrome from 21 to 28 July 1963 - it was here that Nathan Knorr released the New World Translation of the Christian Greek Scripture in Italian, while 20,516 people attended the public talk by Fred Franz (there where only just over 7,000 JWs in the whole of Italy at that time - today there are 250,000 JWs of which nearly 34,000 are regular pioneers).

BOLIVIA COCHABAMBA - 2017 SPECIAL CONVENTION - October 2017
Marking the 61st ANNIVERSARY of the “God's Sons of Liberty” International Assembly taking place here in Bolivia which was attended by a peak of 1,053 persons for the public talk delivered by Milton G. Henschel. Today there are around 25,000 JWs in the country and the Memorial was attended by some 75,000 persons.

Is this one of those occasions where you have to apply to go? Not everyone is accepted?
That was one of the first things that made me "check out" of being a JW, never being very "special" in the eyes of the elders, I just quit trying and never looked back.
But, a lot of JWs will scrimp to save up to go, so they can bring back trinkets and pictures and be special in the congregation.
Reminds me of a MLM company where people pay to belong, pay to attend, pay to...... do everything. I guess it must feel good to be a part of a group, but obviously it's just a moneymaker for the people at the top.
@FedUpJW, they said that people in your part of the US weren't invited? Harsh! How did that go over?

My wife was headed toward a s. convention but wasn't accepted despite her 'hours' attendances etc so she spent the money on a new kitchen. Much more beneficial!
I went to one of these Not Special CONventions in Hamburg, Germany in 2006. My regret was wasting 3 days of an otherwise beautiful, albeit more expensive and restrictive than necessary, trip.
And what is with the Olympic style logos for each convention? Are they selling souvenirs? Although I do like the one from Bolivia with the llama. My wife says I remind her of one. Same temperament. Same look.

So if one decided he/she wanted to go to one of these special events & just turned up, how would they responde? is there a guest list & if you are not on it, be kicked out? or would walkups be welcome?
Are all jws in the host country invited? or are the same criteria be inforced on the local jws?
I have not been to a jw assembly/convention since (I think) 1990, I find it very hard to believe they now have elitist (in good standing) conventions. Even more reason I am so glad I am out of the BULLSHIT.
My home country New Zealand is NOT invited to any WAHOO
Most of the supposed "anniversaries" seem to be somewhat contrived...
"54th anniversary of convention....61st anniversary of the first Memorial (convention is in August - memorial was in March )"
