We heard of some jw's who would book a cabin out of town during the holidays, to meet up with family and not have Christmas but "Gift Exchange."
They brought all kinds of special foods to make a special meal, and inexpensive, wrapped presents "because we haven't seen the family for a long time," NOT because it was Christmas time.
Also - WT doesn't break up families. They "keep Jehovah's congregation clean."
It's not that your Bible student discovered the WT's hypocrisy, it's that you stumbled them.
...and by the way (according a video at the 2017 RC) the JW repentant sinner has to sit at the back of the Kingdom Hall and face further segregation and humiliation during that year-long reinstatement process!
