It would be great if a 'win' like this happened in Canada - we could all write and push for criminal prosecution. It is federal law for any adult to fail to report, but especially those are charged with the care of children; eg, teachers, coaches, health care professionals, clergy ...

That is good to hear that these monsters are being exposed for what they are, and thanks OC, for updating us on so many vital things. t .

Thank you OC for this great post!

JW clergy are acting within the law when they do not report child abusers to the police in a Minister Penitent relationship -as lawyers too also enjoy this immunity with their clients. In this particular case, the Court decided that the law only applies specifically in a Minister Penitent setting as the Court defined what that setting means and in the related case the Court felt that it did not meet such specific conditions. Hey, lets force the lawyers to turn in their clients and lets have the Police invade anyone's house they suspect is a molester. Forget about privacy and the US Constitution and force everyone that suspects of anyone being a molester go to the Police or else -or better yet, get rid of the JW.

    Fisherman,

The JW do not have clergy...or is that doublespeak too?

    Convenient?

Clergy or lawyer privileges is a one on one with no three person judicial committee hearing, (and no elders wives privied to the details to enable gossip)

This is yet another curtian drawn back......

    Very good birdie, very good.

What term do you like to tell the Court to use to describe JW elders acting in their appointed capacity? Choose whatever term you like. But in-spite of what you like, the related law protects JW.

Erm...an appointed window washer janitor is not an appropriate counselor for this type of crime. See...it's a crime that needs a qualified investigation to assist the victim and protect other potential victims. Not a discussion by other window washers.

I have nothing against window washers...just making a point that they are just not educated to deal with these serious issues as many religious leaders and lawyers are.

Thankfully the courts agree. We need to get these laws passed in all states to protect the victims who are nothing in the eyes of the WBTS corporation.

    “False Caste System”

There are “some hopeful signs that the excessive clericalism which has strangled the Church for centuries is beginning to crumble.” So said an Anglican priest in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. He added that there is “an exciting rediscovery of the New Testament model of ministry in which the ordained clergy are recognized as ‘servants of the servants.’” But he cautions: “Of course, it is no easy task to reverse a false caste system which has been in place since the Middle Ages.” The result is that “we have . . . turned the Church into an institution made up of active clerical suppliers and passive lay consumers.”

Interestingly, Jehovah’s Witnesses have for years followed the direction of the Founder of Christianity that “all you are brothers,” and have no clergy class among them. They also have a reputation worldwide for their neighborhood evangelism by all the members of their local congregations. This very organizational arrangement and activity has brought them much criticism from the clergy. But even Jesus Christ encountered clerical opposition in his day from those who wanted titles and positions to distinguish them from their fellow worshipers.—Matt. 23:8-12; 26:3-5.

In Delaware, both Carmean White and her victim were disfellowshipped – the Witnesses’ version of excommunication – in February 2013, according to affidavits.

Thank you blondie. They are getting quite a different reputation worldwide than they tell themselves. It's great to see the curtain finally pulled to the side.

As we wised up we have observed the WT most definitely has clergy/laity. And the courts and the law of the land confirm it.

fisherman That is a blanket statement, and you do not speak for the world. In Canada, they are criminals. Period.

They enjoy neither the same 'privilege' as lawyers (puh-leaze!), nor the confessional.

nonjwspouse - they have claimed they are not clergy, since the days of colporteurs! Liars ; filth. They make me sick.
