607 date of Jerusalems destruction

There was so much else going on in the world at the same time! I really can't see the significance of this one event. If it was meant to be "focal" to ones trying to find God, why didn't He make it unmistakeable?

It seems like the WT shot an arrow back from 1914, then painted a target around 607, then researched the subject fully ensconced in their confirmation bias.

  • Finkelstein

Of course it was confirmation biased for everything the JWs taught throughout the 20th century up until today becomes doctrinal bullshit or false teachings .

Organizations that say they have been chosen exclusively by Jehovah for their truthful bible interpretation looks fraudulent and deceiving. (1919)

As time brings forth the real Truth to this organization's claims and proclamations it becomes clear that this organization was and still is a commercialized false prophet operating through a publishing house, a sinning act of apostasy according to the bible.

Remember too this organization said it was being guided by god's holy spirit and was the most actively righteous availing people to become righteous in the eyes of god.

Oh Oh ..........as they say " Houston we have a problem "

Fink, just trying to rope the discussion in by stating the obvious. I can't for the life of me see how anybody, scholar or not, can get a solid fix on something that happened so long ago. It sounds impressive to be so sure of one's self, but it seems that there are a lot of variables.

  • Finkelstein

I think its important to hold oneself in intellectual honesty that you take all available information possible and draw a conclusion from that basis.

It seems with religious organizations they rigidly strive to be biased and selective to only information that supports their own unique theology, that way they can present it as true, accurate and honest.

You can see this right from the beginning of the Watchtower Corporation and the head leaders of the IBSA

Scholar why does it matter that Jerusalem was destroyed in 607, compared to 587?

  • Finkelstein

GoUnion, It matters because that's where the JWS calculate 1914 which is a core doctrine of the JWS,

This date setting by the way is apostasy according to the words of Jesus Christ

Scholar is a JWS so he backs this doctrinal teaching.

Of course, the WT taught it was 606 BCE because in their maths they counted a zero year.

    1 BCE...0 CE...1 CE.

Whilst there is no zero year.

    1 BCE...1 CE

So when they realized their mistake you would think, if being honest (don't snigger) that you adjust your end date of a prophecy to 1915 because...well...you cannot change a date in history.

It would be like me say I'm 30 years old...looking at my birthday...realize I'm 31 but then adjust the year I was born to suit that I am 30.

The fact the WT is willing to adjust a date set in stone in history (forget the 587/586 bit for now) rather than the end date of a prophecy is clear that they simply want it to fit to 1914 no matter what.

There are over 13,000 tablets that show the destruction was 587/586 BCE...it is irrefutable.

The WT only stance is "well the bible is inspired...the 1914 is true therefore it must be 607 BCE".

I'll repeat...the fact they adjusted the date in history marked by events and recorded by a people who recorded everything rather than adjust the date of the end of their prophecy shows what they are...a cult.

  • Finkelstein

If Jesus himself said that no one knows of the time not even himself and admonished his true followers to not set a time on god's own sacred time .

Like I mentioned previously the JWS's doctrines are acts of unloyal sinning apostasy.

Archaeological findings plus biblical chronology both support 586 BCE as Jerusalem's final destruction

Archaeology does not account for the 70 years period and neither does secular chronology.

Daniel provides a historical basis for the determination of 539 BCE -The Fall of Babylon accepted by all Chronologists so Daniel, the book is hardly mythology.

All this reminds me of the concept of moving the finish line so you can win. As long as the WTS claims the right to move the finish line, it will be hard to convince most jws to contradict it. The ones that might were weeded out in 1975 and later in 1994 when the time for the maximum length of a generation dogma ran out. (1914-1994),
